Kn Control Nitriding Treatment (Nitrex)

Nitrogen treatment tailored to your needs, controlled by nitrogen potential (Kn)! *Large products up to Φ1000×H1400 can be processed.

Our company is the only contract processing manufacturer in Japan that has a licensing agreement with NITREX. The state-of-the-art nitriding treatment can control the Kn (nitriding potential) to change the nitriding composition. In particular, by using the Le Chatelier diagram (equilibrium phase diagram), we can control the diffusing nitrogen concentration to easily produce: - Nitrided structure with only a diffusion layer without a compound layer - Adjustment of nitrogen concentration in the diffusion layer - Generation of a dense compound layer (with minimal porosity) For more details, please contact us or download the PDF.

Plasma nitriding treatment (ion nitriding treatment)

This is an introduction to environmentally focused nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum.

At Asahi Heat Treatment Industry Co., Ltd., we conduct environmentally conscious nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum. When a direct current voltage is applied between the furnace wall and the workpiece in the vacuum furnace, glow discharge occurs. Hydrogen and gas are used as reaction gases to initiate the glow discharge. When nitrogen gas is introduced as the nitriding reaction gas into the excited plasma, nitrogen atoms are similarly excited and converted into N+ ions. These N+ ions are charged on the surface of the workpiece, allowing activated nitrogen elements to diffuse and harden the surface. Typically, the treatment is performed under a vacuum pressure of 1 to 10 torr at temperatures ranging from 400°C to 570°C. 【Features】 ■ The heat source used for treatment is plasma, which is energy-efficient. ■ Gas concentration can be easily adjusted, allowing for the tuning of nitriding characteristics. ■ By using carburizing gas, carburizing can be performed alongside nitriding. ■ Nitriding treatment can be conducted at low temperatures below 500°C, resulting in minimal dimensional changes and distortion. ■ Masking (nitriding prevention) can be easily achieved with jigs, allowing for partial nitriding. ■ The process is pollution-free and uses very few gases that contribute to global warming. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Soft nitriding treatment for stainless steel (PSN treatment)

No vacuum treatment or removal of passive films by halides is necessary. Soft nitriding treatment for stainless steel.

When performing soft nitriding treatment on stainless steel, the nitriding is inhibited by the passive chromium oxide film on the surface. Therefore, it is usually necessary to create a vacuum to remove the passive film or to remove the passive film using halides before proceeding with nitriding. However, with our precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment), we create an atmosphere that reduces the passive film during thermal decomposition and use a powder material that generates gas for soft nitriding, making it possible to achieve soft nitriding of stainless steel. If you are considering soft nitriding treatment for stainless steel, please feel free to contact us. 【Other Features】 ■ Low-temperature treatment (400℃ to 530℃) minimizes dimensional changes and deformation. ■ Subsequent processes such as shot peening and PVD treatment are possible, allowing for synergistic effects through composite treatments. ■ Improvement of mechanical properties, mainly enhancing wear resistance, fatigue strength, and heat resistance. ■ Improved release properties in resin molds. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Gas Soft Nitriding Treatment (SN Process)

For improving the wear resistance, fatigue strength, and sliding performance of steel materials, gas soft nitriding treatment is recommended.

This is an introduction to the gas soft nitriding treatment (SN process) conducted by our company. When gas soft nitriding is performed, a compound layer (ε layer) of about 5μm to 20μm is formed on the metal surface. This compound layer consists of a layer made of nitrides and carbides, and the gas soft nitriding treatment is conducted in an atmosphere that contains not only nitrogen atoms but also carbon atoms. Furthermore, inside this compound layer, a layer of nitrides called the diffusion layer is formed, and these compound and diffusion layers enhance the wear resistance, fatigue strength, and sliding performance of steel material components. For this reason, it can be said that this is a widely used surface heat treatment for automotive parts, electronic components, general industrial equipment, molds, and more. 【Features】 ■ Shapes that are unsuitable for salt bath nitriding or plasma nitriding, such as deep holes and slits, can be easily treated. ■ The surface has a clean, milky white finish without the adhesion of impurities or oxide films. ■ Easily applicable from small lots to mass production, for both small and large parts. ■ Improvement of mechanical properties: enhanced wear resistance (effect of high hardness and low friction coefficient of the compound layer). *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment)

Introduction of precision low-temperature nitriding treatment targeting stainless steel precision parts and precision molds developed by our company.

The precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment) is a precision low-temperature nitriding process developed by our company, targeting stainless steel precision parts and precision molds. It is a groundbreaking treatment method that uses specially formulated plastic raw materials as a nitriding source. This method allows for effective utilization of raw materials and has minimal environmental impact. Currently, we are researching and developing a method to harden austenitic stainless steel without compromising its corrosion resistance, which is a global theme. 【Features】 ■ Easy nitriding treatment of stainless steel ■ Low-temperature treatment (400°C to 530°C) minimizes dimensional changes and deformation ■ Composite treatments can be easily performed, allowing for subsequent processes such as shot peening and PVD treatment, enabling improvements through synergistic effects ■ Improvement of mechanical properties - Enhanced wear resistance, fatigue strength, and heat resistance ■ Improved release properties in resin molds *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Precision nitriding treatment (PSN treatment) for small items and thin items such as precision molds.

For small and thin items that do not become brittle, please try Asahi Heat Treatment's precision low-temperature nitriding process (PSN treatment).

Soft nitriding treatment can easily form a nitrided layer of approximately several hundred microns to 1 millimeter, combining the surface compound layer and the internal diffusion layer, within a processing time of a few hours. Therefore, when processing small or thin items of the above sizes, not only the surface but the entire product becomes nitrided, which can lead to brittleness. Our precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment) allows for easy control of nitrogen diffusion by performing the treatment at low temperatures. This enables soft nitriding treatment that retains the toughness of small and thin items. If you wish to achieve soft nitriding while maintaining toughness even for small or thin items, please consider our precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment). 【Other Features】 - Low-temperature treatment (400°C to 530°C) minimizes dimensional changes and deformation. - Subsequent processes such as shot peening and PVD treatment are possible, allowing for synergistic effects through composite treatments. - Improvement of mechanical properties, mainly enhancing wear resistance, fatigue strength, and heat resistance. - Improved release properties in resin molds. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
