"Isonite TF treatment" is a soft nitriding process conducted in a salt bath, which is an effective surface treatment for all iron-based metals. Since the treatment is performed at a relatively low temperature of 580°C, which is far below the quenching temperature of steel, it is very advantageous in terms of deformation and dimensional changes. The nitrogen and carbon elements generated by the reactions in the salt bath penetrate and diffuse into the workpiece, forming a compound layer (iron nitride) on the very surface, with a diffusion layer just beneath it. The diffusion layer significantly improves fatigue strength, with improvements of more than twice observed, especially in carbon steel. Plasma nitriding treatment (ion nitriding treatment)

This is an introduction to environmentally focused nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum.

At Asahi Heat Treatment Industry Co., Ltd., we conduct environmentally conscious nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum. When a direct current voltage is applied between the furnace wall and the workpiece in the vacuum furnace, glow discharge occurs. Hydrogen and gas are used as reaction gases to initiate the glow discharge. When nitrogen gas is introduced as the nitriding reaction gas into the excited plasma, nitrogen atoms are similarly excited and converted into N+ ions. These N+ ions are charged on the surface of the workpiece, allowing activated nitrogen elements to diffuse and harden the surface. When performing soft nitriding treatment on stainless steel, the nitriding is inhibited by the passive chromium oxide film on the surface. Therefore, it is usually necessary to create a vacuum to remove the passive film or to remove the passive film using halides before proceeding with nitriding. However, with our precision low-temperature nitriding treatment (PSN treatment), we create an atmosphere that reduces the passive film during thermal decomposition and use a powder material that generates gas for soft nitriding, making it possible to achieve soft nitriding of stainless steel. S Coat - NV Night

Nitriding Method "S.P.N. Method"

The "S.P.N. method" is a nitriding process for steel that utilizes plasma energy, differing from the conventional ion nitriding method that uses traditional plasma power. It causes less roughness on the surface of the treated material and can suppress the formation of compound layers, which are considered a drawback in the case of alloy steel. Therefore, it features reduced "dimensional changes" and "brittleness" compared to conventional methods. Soft nitriding treatment (Tuftride)

Processing is possible for various types of steel! It is a treatment that results in extremely little deformation compared to carburizing and conventional quenching.

Our company offers "soft nitriding treatment (Tufftriding)." This process is conducted at a lower temperature (generally between 550 and 580°C) than the transformation point temperature (the austenite transformation temperature during quenching), resulting in extremely minimal deformation compared to carburizing or conventional quenching. Unlike the phenomenon of hardening through quenching, this treatment hardens by diffusing nitrogen into the surface and forming a layer of iron nitride compounds on the surface. (This differs from the form of hardening that utilizes the transformation of steel as in quenching.) Soft nitriding aims to improve fatigue strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. The finish appears gray to light gray (the color of the nitrided layer). This technology is a nitriding treatment method that maintains the low distortion characteristic of nitriding while allowing for arbitrary changes in the compound layer composition to enable enhancements according to specific purposes. The composition of ε(Fe2-3N), which is typical for gas soft nitriding, achieves hardness with its hexagonal crystal lattice but has the property of being brittle due to its high porosity.
