Plasma nitriding

Partial nitriding prevention is also okay. It is nitriding powered by clean and eco-friendly electricity.

"Plasma nitriding treatment" is a method that utilizes glow discharge to ionize a small amount of mixed gas of N2 and H2 introduced into the furnace, and nitrides the treated items with the ionized N ions. A compound layer of iron nitrides is formed on the product surface, enhancing wear resistance, fatigue strength, and corrosion resistance. Furthermore, if sputtering is performed to collide H ions with the product surface before nitriding to clean nitriding inhibitors, nitriding can be achieved even for steel types that cannot undergo conventional ammonia gas nitriding due to strong passive films like stainless steel. The greatest advantage compared to other nitriding methods is the ability to partially cover the treated items with fixtures and block the glow discharge, allowing for localized prevention of nitriding. [Characteristics (partial)] ■ Applicable steel types: all iron-based metals ■ The ions clean the surface, suppressing the formation of surface embrittlement layers, resulting in a smooth finish that eliminates the need for post-processing. ■ A wide range of nitriding temperatures can be selected according to the application of the product, and processing at low temperatures minimizes thermal distortion. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

Nitriding treatment

It hardens a few micrometers from the surface. This is done after finishing, but the previous process is also important.

Plasma ion nitriding involves creating a glow discharge with the furnace body as the anode and the product as the cathode in a low-pressure nitrogen gas atmosphere, resulting in a soft light similar to a neon sign enveloping the product. The energy from the ions heats the product while simultaneously nitriding it. Our company has quickly adopted this plasma ion nitriding equipment to provide higher quality products. ● Extremely low distortion due to low-temperature processing ● High nitrogen potential allows for rapid formation of the nitrided layer ● By adjusting the gas ratio and temperature, the state of the nitrided layer can be controlled ● Good surface roughness due to processing in a vacuum ● Even materials like austenitic stainless steel can be nitrided uniformly

Micronite

Wear protection for stainless steel! Even under external loads, the surface can easily adapt. *Can also comply with PFAS regulations.

Our developed "Micro-Night" is a new nitriding treatment that achieves both corrosion resistance and wear resistance, unlike conventional nitriding processes. By nitriding at a low temperature below 400°C, the formation of Cr oxides in the nitrided layer (S phase) is suppressed, making it easier to form a passive Cr film. The formation of the nitrided layer increases surface hardness by more than twice, narrowing the gap in hardness between the underlying stainless steel and the surface compared to coatings. 【Features】 ■ Achieves both corrosion resistance and wear resistance ■ Suppresses Cr oxides in the nitrided layer (S phase) ■ Facilitates the formation of a passive Cr film ■ Increases surface hardness by more than twice ■ The surface easily follows external loads *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

Technical Introduction: "Gas Nitriding Treatment"

With precise control, it is possible to create products with a small distortion and a high-quality nitride formation layer!

Gas soft nitriding treatment is one of the soft nitriding methods developed to solve the quality issues associated with traditional salt bath nitriding and to reduce environmental impact while achieving equivalent or superior quality characteristics. Generally, at a treatment temperature of around 570°C, a mixed gas primarily composed of ammonia gas is added to form a compound layer of carbides and nitrides on the surface of the processed material, creating a diffusion layer beneath it. This nitrided layer significantly improves the mechanical properties of steel components, such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance. Gas soft nitriding treatment is an environmentally friendly method that allows for effective quality characteristics to be obtained in a short time, making it a processing method that takes environmental aspects into consideration. It is also a treatment method that responds to the lightweight and miniaturization of components due to the spread of electric vehicles, and it is expected to be increasingly applied in a wide range of markets as a surface hardening method. ● For more details, please contact us.

Strengthening Manual for Screws (Vol. 31) What other measures are there for preventing seizing?

Introducing anti-seizing measures such as nitriding and shot peening!

To suppress the seizing of screws, treatments that enhance the surface properties of bolts and similar components, aside from applying lubricants, include heat-based surface treatments and physical processing, which are also effective. Now, let's take a look at what other methods are available. Nitriding, which uses nitrogen to harden the surface, involves infiltrating nitrogen (N) into the surface of steel to create iron nitride (FeN), a compound with iron (Fe). Depending on the type of nitriding, this iron nitride can be quite hard, resistant to wear, and has high sliding properties, making nitriding effective in suppressing screw seizing. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. [Case Study] Proposal for Heat Treatment Method for Prototypes

Solutions for precision and distortion issues! Introduction of heat treatment examples for prototypes.

This is a case study regarding a request for heat treatment "salt quenching" for SK material prototypes. 【Consultation Details】 We want to achieve a hardness of HRC50 or higher, but if we perform salt quenching with the material as is, issues with precision and distortion arise. 【Solution Case】 We proposed changing the material from SK to SPCC and altering the heat treatment method to gas nitriding. This not only achieved a hardness of HRC50 or higher, but also reduced the total cost of mass-produced items and improved the lifespan of the molds. At Meinetz, we propose heat treatment solutions tailored to our customers' needs.

Technical Introduction: "Nitriding Treatment"

It is possible to provide optimal nitriding characteristics for the required functions!

Nitriding is a treatment that generates hard nitrides such as those of Ar, Cr, Mo, Ti, and V by allowing nitrogen to diffuse into the material. As a result, it does not harden due to changes in the microstructure, leading to less distortion compared to carburizing. Additionally, the treatment temperature is between 500 and 550°C, making it an environmentally friendly process. Furthermore, with the integration and high precision of components, research and development of nitriding processes controlled by atmosphere is gaining attention as a heat treatment technology that minimizes distortion. However, in conventional gas nitriding processes, an excessive compound layer is formed on the surface, which can lead to peeling and dimensional changes. To address this issue, we have established a technology that utilizes H2 sensors to control the thickness of the compound layer through nitriding potential. ● For more details, please contact us.

Minimize deformation! Heat treatment "Gas Nitriding"

For heat treatment, go to Meinetz! The heat treatment "gas nitrocarburizing" improves corrosion resistance and wear resistance.

Even for shafts that are prone to distortion, warping, and deformation, precise heat treatment is possible with Meinetsu's years of expertise and the latest processing method, "gas soft nitriding treatment." The "gas soft nitriding treatment" is a heat treatment that maintains a temperature range of 550 to 600°C in a mixed atmosphere of carburizing gas and NH3 (ammonia), allowing nitrogen and carbon to diffuse into the surface to form carbonitrides, thereby achieving surface hardening. Additionally, because it operates in a temperature range that does not involve changes in metal structure, it results in a treatment that is less prone to deformation and dimensional changes. This method is actively adopted for sliding parts, wear-resistant components, and resin molds. 【Features】 ■ Strongly enhances wear resistance and corrosion resistance ■ Effective in suppressing distortion, suitable for products with strict dimensional accuracy ■ Adopts retort outer cooling method to reduce load on products ■ Minimal nitriding unevenness, resulting in a beautiful (silver-gray) finish ■ Capable of handling sizes up to Φ600mm × 1000mm

"Gas Nitriding Treatment" that solves your problems during the hardening process.

For sliding parts, wear-resistant parts, and resin molds! Solve distortion, finishing, and cost issues during hardening with "gas nitriding treatment"!

Gas soft nitriding treatment is a heat treatment that forms carbonitrides on the surface by heating and holding in a mixed atmosphere, allowing nitrogen and carbon to diffuse into the surface. It features excellent wear resistance, less distortion compared to quenching, and surface hardness equivalent to that achieved during quenching, with a quicker finishing time. By hardening relatively inexpensive materials, it is also possible to achieve the same hardness as more expensive materials. Additionally, while the basic finishing characteristics such as hardness remain unchanged between "salt bath soft nitriding" and "gas soft nitriding," gas soft nitriding results in a cleaner appearance after treatment, leading to fewer processing steps and faster completion. Products that are treated with salt bath nitriding should also be considered for gas soft nitriding. 【Features】 ■ High wear resistance and corrosion resistance ■ Effective for products with strict dimensional accuracy due to minimized distortion ■ Adopts a retort outer cooling method to reduce the load on the product ■ Minimal nitriding unevenness, resulting in a beautiful (silver-gray) finish ■ Suitable for sliding parts, wear-resistant parts, and resin molds We can accommodate requests for one-off or small-lot heat treatments for prototyping and development. For more details, please refer to the materials available for download in the [PDF download] or feel free to contact us.
