Tohoku Univ. Technology : Nucleic acid molecules that increase insulin-secreting beta cells : T14-170

New treatment concept for diabetes mellitus

It has been reported that reduction or deletion of Langerhans β cells (hereafter β cells) in pancreatic islet occurs not only in type 1 diabetes but also in type 2 diabetes. Therefore, regeneration or promotion of β cells has been proposed as a promising treatment for diabetes. Recently, it has been shown that the transplantation of bone marrow cells promotes the proliferation of β cells. However, the mechanism is not clear. The present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules that promote the proliferation of β cells. Said molecules increased insulin secretion and decreased blood glucose levels in animal model (right figure and related literature) in vivo. In combination with drug delivery systems, it is expected to establish a novel treatment for diabetes.

Launch of quality evaluation services for the development and application of extracellular vesicle pharmaceuticals.

Providing comprehensive analytical support for the social implementation of extracellular vesicles.

Our company (hereinafter referred to as "TRC") has launched a service for pharmaceutical applications of extracellular vesicles as part of our analytical support for the social implementation of extracellular vesicles. Extracellular vesicles are small vesicles (small bag-like structures enclosed by a membrane) secreted by cells that transport biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, playing a crucial role in intercellular communication. In recent years, the development of drugs utilizing extracellular vesicles as drug delivery systems (extracellular vesicle drugs) has been advancing, but there are few companies capable of conducting analyses that meet the stringent standards for pharmaceutical applications, making the establishment of an analytical framework for drug applications urgent. Therefore, TRC has started a quality evaluation service for the development and application of extracellular vesicle drugs, contributing to the social implementation of extracellular vesicles.

Introduction to the Seranostics Business

We would like to introduce a project aimed at the integration of imaging diagnosis and treatment using radiopharmaceuticals!

Theranostics, which closely links treatment and diagnosis, is expected to contribute to personalized medicine and the effective use of healthcare costs. By developing therapeutic agents using radioisotopes (RI: radioactive isotopes) that emit alpha particles, a type of radiation, along with companion diagnostic agents, we aim to realize theranostics. We have completed the CRADLE building and established the "Theranostics Production Technology Center." By placing a dedicated department, we will achieve the early supply of alpha-emitting radionuclides from the CRADLE building, while further strengthening collaboration between the drug discovery laboratory located within the same facility and the Chiba factory, thereby accelerating the development of theranostics drug discovery. 【Functions of the facility】 ■ Production of 225Ac and PET radionuclides ■ Handling of 177Lu and 211At, among others ■ Production of investigational drugs ■ Production of research-use RIs *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Molecular basis of small nucleic acids that control gene expression and their application in pharmaceuticals.

Keywords: microRNA, viral defense mechanisms, cell death due to viral infection, siRNA, nucleic acid medicines

mRNA is RNA that contains information for protein synthesis, but there are also many non-coding RNAs in the cell that do not carry messages. We have been elucidating the mechanisms by which immune responses to RNA virus infections are regulated by small non-coding RNAs called microRNAs. Understanding this mechanism may contribute to the development of novel nucleic acid medicines. Additionally, while siRNA also suppresses the expression of mRNA, siRNA has a suppressive effect on a single gene, whereas microRNA acts on entire specific gene groups. Although there are currently no nucleic acid medicines utilizing microRNA, we are hopeful that if the mechanisms of their action in virus-infected cells are clarified, the potential for nucleic acid medicines will expand even further.

【Industry-Specific Utilization Methods】Pharmaceuticals

We are introducing the three key points of GDP and two transportation methods corresponding to GDP!

In the pharmaceutical industry, it has become necessary to respond to GDP (Good Distribution Practice), which expands to include storage and transportation in the distribution process, as a complement to the conventional GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards for manufacturing and quality control. Emphasis is placed on ensuring quality throughout the distribution process, with particular importance placed on temperature control. It is required that proper temperature management is maintained from the time products leave the manufacturing facility until they reach the patient. Wacon will assist you in complying with GDP using refrigerated boxes. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. [Service Example] Major Pharmaceutical Company J

We will introduce examples of providing extensive support for the preparation of materials for internal controls and lectures for stakeholders, as well as support for the internal implementation of new business launches!

We would like to introduce a case where comprehensive project management was implemented for Company J, a major pharmaceutical company, while considering the legal regulations surrounding pharmaceutical sales. The company was exploring the launch of a new e-commerce platform in order to broaden its user base and achieve further sales growth. After the service was introduced, the synchronization of member information registered on the existing site with the e-commerce system was addressed, allowing purchasing behavior on the e-commerce platform to be reflected in the existing customer database in real-time. We provided extensive support for necessary e-commerce operations both before and after the release. [Challenges] - The company was exploring the launch of a new e-commerce platform to broaden its user base and achieve further sales growth. - There were several concerns regarding the construction of the e-commerce platform, including the specific regulations of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act (formerly the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law) related to pharmaceutical e-commerce and the integration of member information registered on the existing site. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.*
