Kanto Tour - A metal processing company specializing in heavy machinery such as construction equipment and forklifts.

Of course, we can accommodate various materials such as iron and SUS! We introduce a major long-established processing company founded in 1957 on our blog.

I will share information about visiting JIMTOF next time, and this time I will write about a processing company in Ibaraki Prefecture. The processing companies in the "Hometown Processing Network" often specialize in specific processing tasks, but this particular company is a bit different. In a word, they are "all-purpose." From spot products to mass-produced items, they can handle a wide range of processing tasks including cutting, polishing, heat treatment, welding, painting, and assembly all in one stop. *You can view detailed content of the blog through the related links. In response to domestic return - What are Bandai's initiatives?

If you are considering shifting your procurement route from overseas to domestic, please feel free to reach out!

Due to the impact of the historically weak yen, companies that primarily relied on imports may be entering a transition period to switch to domestic procurement. In the previous blog, I wrote pompously that the trend of returning to domestic production that will be noteworthy in the future is to "not only pursue cost but also emphasize supply chains aimed at stable supply." Until now, "low cost" has been the most important factor. *For more details, you can view the blog through the related link. Please feel free to download the PDF or contact us for more information.*

The impact of the historically weak yen: Changes brought to the supply chain.

Introducing a blog that focuses on "changes in the supply chain"!

As the subject suggests, the historical depreciation of the yen shows no signs of stopping. Recently, there was a slight appreciation of about 5 yen due to government intervention in the foreign exchange market, but shortly after, the yen fell again. I'm not sure if the term "fall" is appropriate, but I don't have the impression that this depreciation of the yen is providing a better environment for our lives and the economy. In the past, when the yen depreciated, it was said that companies, especially those focused on exports, would thrive, resulting in an expansion of the trade surplus. However, that is not the case nowadays. As it is mockingly referred to as a "bad yen depreciation," a weaker yen does not necessarily lead to a trade surplus. *For more details on the blog, you can view it through the related links. Tough pitch copper (C1100), oxygen-free copper (C1020) processed products - Part 1

Have the processed products of tough pitch copper (C1100) and oxygen-free copper (C1020) been completed? Here’s the introduction to the first part of the epilogue!

To get straight to the conclusion, we successfully completed the good product. Now, let me provide a digest of the path to completion. With the Obon holiday approaching, both the machining and brazing contractors seem to be extremely busy. It doesn't seem like there's any room to squeeze in new projects at this timing. Finding new machining contractors has also reached a deadlock. So, I decided to change my approach. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links. "Cost reduction" can be summarized in one word, but the requests vary greatly.

Introducing a blog about a message from a customer who requested cost reduction!

"Of course, it is better if it is inexpensive, but what is most important is whether you can produce it according to the drawings while considering the delivery time. If there are points where our company can also compromise, please feel free to contact us if anything comes up." This is an excerpt from a message received from a customer who requested cost reduction from our company. Regarding the specific examples of cost reduction mentioned in the previous blog, how do you feel when you receive a request like this? *For more details about the blog, you can view it through the related link. I feel a change in awareness towards cost reduction every day.

We have seen an increase in requests for quotes on processed products from customers with whom we haven't had much business until now!

Amidst the wave of price increases, a "certain change" is occurring among several of our customers. This change is the increase in requests for quotes for processed products from customers with whom we have not had much business before. Additionally, these quote requests share some similar characteristics. 1. They are mass-produced processed products with unit prices ranging from several thousand yen to several hundred thousand yen. 2. They are replacement projects for existing suppliers. The unit prices for these processed products are quite high, and typically, there are not many requests for replacements of existing mass-produced products. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related link. I'm considering the introduction of fiber laser welding.

A project that has resurfaced due to the introduction of fiber laser welding machines by the manufacturer!

The other day, I received a message from a processing company in the "Hometown Processing Network" saying, "We are considering introducing a fiber laser welding machine, but do you still have the previous project?" The "previous project" refers to a request we received from a customer a few months ago, which was a mass production project for 100 lots at a desired price of 10,000 yen per unit. It was a very attractive project. The specifications involve shaping a 0.5t thin plate of SUS304 into a cylindrical shape with lids on both ends. *For more details, you can view the related links on the blog. Overcoming with Honing & Cutting Processing! Countermeasures for Mold Loss Troubles

Lost the mold? No delivery date? In such cases, breakthrough with honing and machining.

"Could you please do it as soon as possible, somehow?" Among the drawings that arrived, there was a particularly eye-catching part. The material was FCD450—meaning cast iron. The quantity was small, just 30 pieces, but the shape was complex, and the drawing date was ten years ago. Feeling a slight unease, I confirmed with the customer, and as expected— "Actually, the current processing company has lost the mold..." Normally, it would be unavoidable to have a long lead time to remake the mold. However, the drawing specified **±0.005 dimensional tolerance and Ra0.2 surface roughness**, and furthermore, that area was the "cylinder sliding part." In other words, it was a high-precision part that required honing. At Bandai, we replaced everything with cutting without using a mold, and by collaborating with a honing-specialized processing partner, we achieved the shortest possible lead time. Even without a mold, and even with strict precision— Our **"Hometown Processing Network" at Bandai** can respond to those "troubles." *Please note that this kind of response is just a small part of what Bandai does every day. We invite you to see the value we can provide to our customers.*

You can't see it in the equipment list—"live information" creates cost advantages.

Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of manufacturers is the strength of Bandai.

Is it too good to be true to be 'cheap, fast, and good'? — No, there are proper 'reasons' for it. We will delve into the 'secret of the low cost' of the 'Hometown Processing Network' that we introduced earlier. The key lies with H, a professional in welding and prototype processing. By maximizing their strengths in can manufacturing, they optimized costs through reduced setup times and improved processing efficiency. Identifying the 'strengths and weaknesses' that cannot be discerned from equipment lists or websites and ensuring optimal matching is the true essence of Bandai. We would like to present practical examples that those who want to maintain high quality while keeping costs down should definitely read. *Such efforts are just a small part of what Bandai does on a daily basis. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.

The answer is not far away, but close by. The birth story of the "Processing Network."

If you can't find it even after searching, try relying on "connections."

In order to find partners for mass production sheet metal processing, I spent days making dozens of cold calls to processing companies nationwide. Even so, I was struggling to find any promising leads and felt stuck. It was during this time that the executive of a prototype processing company in Shimane, who has been a great help to us, casually mentioned, "Shall I introduce you to a sheet metal company strong in mass production?" — that one remark was the beginning of everything. The person in charge at the introduced company came from the prototype department of an agricultural machinery manufacturer. They excel in the know-how of keeping costs down without compromising quality, and there are processing companies nearby that can handle welding, cutting, and surface treatment. A system was established that could handle 700 items in one go within a few minutes' drive, and at that moment, the "Hometown Processing Network" was born. The answer was not far away, but right next to trust. *This kind of support is just a small part of what Bandai does every day. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.

From observation to full-scale request. The journey with the vehicle manufacturer!

First, let's start with "taking a look." A challenge in processing products for vehicles.

"Do you have any experience in manufacturing processed products for vehicles?" One day, this question arrived from a train vehicle manufacturer, marking the beginning of a new challenge. While we had a track record of supplying off-the-shelf products (such as bearings), we had zero experience with processed products. Nevertheless, based on our past delivery records and evaluations of our finishing quality, I confidently replied, "We do not have a track record of supplying processed products for train vehicles, but we have never received complaints regarding our finishing quality." Amidst the tension, after providing thorough explanations, we secured inquiries for processed products for six vehicles due to interior renovations. Initially, the requests were mainly for relatively low-difficulty tasks such as laser and brake processing, but by accumulating achievements in delivery times, pricing, and quality, we eventually expanded into consultations for high-difficulty processing such as welding and assembly. This experience reflects how the technical capabilities of the "Hometown Processing Network" gradually shaped trust. *Please note that this type of response is just a small part of what Bandai does on a daily basis. We invite you to see the value we can provide to our customers.*

What is heat treatment? What is it done for?

A processing method that utilizes heat! We will explain it clearly based on the example of gears.

Heat treatment is a very important factor in the production of processed products. However, it is often difficult to distinguish between good and bad products based solely on their appearance, so it is essential to have a precise understanding of the process. If heat treatment is ordered without sufficient understanding, it could lead to significant problems later on. Our company has also had bitter experiences in the past where issues arose from heat treatment. Therefore, our company has conducted several internal study sessions, and our employees have a good understanding of the content and risks associated with heat treatment. Now, we will explain this in an easy-to-understand manner using the example of gears. *For detailed content of the blog, please refer to the related links. Everything is written on the blueprint. But the day came when I was asked, 'Did you really read it properly?'

Insufficient verification is a pitfall for professionals. Questioning the "obvious" leads to quality.

We received a request from a customer to perform additional processing on a standard bevel gear from a certain gear manufacturer. The "material" section of the drawing listed the model of the standard product, and both our company and the processing contractor proceeded with the prototype based on that information. However, after delivering the prototype, we were pointed out by the quality control representative that "the hardness is different." In a hurry, we rechecked the drawing and found that there was a clear hardness specification exceeding the standard product's hardness range mentioned separately in the drawing. This was a moment of reflection for us as professionals, caused by the assumption that "there should be no problem since it's a standard product" and a lack of thorough verification. Fortunately, we were able to address it with heat treatment, but it reinforced the idea that drawings should not only be reviewed at the beginning but should be examined thoroughly until the end. We will ensure that we do not waste this experience and will be diligent in checking every detail moving forward. *This kind of response is just a small part of the initiatives that Bandai engages in daily. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.

Utilizing Generative AI × ChatGPT! Internal Business Efficiency Seminar Held

Improving business operations with generative AI! Supporting the introduction of ChatGPT from meeting minutes creation to utilizing drawings.

At Bandai, we have started initiatives to leverage generative AI and ChatGPT in our operations. As the first step, we held an in-house seminar with Mr. Inoue, the representative of Westana Co., Ltd., which provides support for AI implementation, as the speaker. Through actual demonstrations, we shared "specific methods to enhance the quality of work," including creating meeting minutes, drafting emails, structuring documents, and analyzing drawings. Participants seemed convinced by the estimate that it could reduce work time by 20 hours per person per month at a cost of just a few thousand yen. Everyone, including not only sales and administrative staff but also warehouse personnel, participated, and many expressed positive thoughts like, "I think I can utilize this in my own work." Bandai will continue to flexibly use generative AI not just as a trend but as a "tool to assist work," aiming to improve our proposal capabilities and responsiveness to our clients and suppliers. *This kind of initiative is just a small part of what Bandai is doing every day. Die-sinking electrical discharge machining enabling complex three-dimensional shapes.

Inclined grooves, intermediate stops, and fine shapes can all be achieved in one process with die-sinking electrical discharge machining.

When drawing a blueprint, have you ever found yourself stopping and wondering, "How will I process this diagonal groove?" Grooves that stop midway or fine shapes with a width of around 0.1mm can be challenging cases for wire-cut electrical discharge machining. At Bandai, we collaborate with our processing partner in Dongguan, China, to respond to such design intentions using die-sinking electrical discharge machining. This time, we tackled a high-difficulty shape that includes four diagonal grooves at a 5° angle inside a hole, all in one process using a dedicated electrode. We confirmed the shape accuracy with a three-dimensional measuring machine for all parts, ensuring they are reliable components even with short delivery times. If you ever find yourself wondering, "How will I process this shape?" please feel free to consult us. *This kind of response is just a small part of what Bandai does every day. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.

Japanese Quality and Responsiveness Seen in Cutting Processing Companies in Dalian, China

Low price equals low quality is outdated. The reality of Chinese manufacturing sites is thorough processes, inspections, and improvements.

"Concerns about quality in overseas processing" — a site in Dalian challenges that perception. The processing partner that Bandai visited in China specializes in single-item, multi-variety small-batch production and offers a wide range of services from machining, turning, grinding, wire cutting, to welding. In terms of process management, they rigorously implement work instructions, creating a system that ensures quality and delivery times are maintained regardless of who is performing the processing. On the inspection side, they are equipped with multiple three-dimensional measuring machines in a temperature-controlled inspection room, conducting 100% inspections and issuing inspection reports for both prototypes and mass production. In the event of defects, they quickly resolve issues from internal sharing to root cause analysis and re-manufacturing, implementing horizontal deployment for recurrence prevention. They execute quality management based on Japanese standards as a matter of course while maintaining the cost competitiveness unique to China. This is a processing site that design and purchasing professionals who do not want to compromise on quality or price should definitely know about. *Such efforts are just a small part of what Bandai engages in daily. Please take a look at the value we can offer to our customers.

I will teach you the basics of lathe work as taught by a skilled craftsman!

What are the important fundamentals that a craftsman with 25 years of lathe machining experience talks about?

The products processed from copper round bars at Ishigaki Store are important products that receive the transmitted electric current. How can we achieve successful processing? The answer is that processing cannot be done without a solid understanding of the basics. What is lathe processing? It is a type of machine tool that holds a round bar in a place called a chuck, rotates it, and cuts it using a tool appropriate for its function. What types of processing are possible? 1: Outer diameter cutting Cutting the outer side of the round bar. 2: Inner diameter cutting Cutting the inside of the round bar. 3: End face processing Improving the flatness of the cut surfaces on both ends of the round bar by cutting 0.5 mm to 2 mm for dimensional accuracy. 4: Drilling Creating holes of specified size and depth on the end face of the round bar according to the drawing requirements. Multi-axis machine tools, such as composite machines, can drill holes on the side of the round bar. 5: Boring Using a boring tool on the drilled hole to widen it to fine tolerances or improve the flatness of the inner surface. 6: Thread cutting Cutting the outer and inner diameters of the round bar with a tool called a thread cutting bit to form threads. 7: Parting Cutting by pressing the tool against the center of the round bar. Understanding the basics and processing is the first step for a craftsman.

A secret that only those who have done copper welding can understand...

The secret of copper welding that I will only teach to you who have been seen.

Product Introduction Our company adopts "TIG welding" to accommodate various shapes and plate thicknesses. TIG welding is a technique that uses approximately 100A to 180A of electric heat and inert gas to melt the joining parts of the materials and manually join them. Copper's excellent conductivity can be a disadvantage in welding, as the electricity flowing through the weld can be transmitted in all directions. Therefore, it is necessary to have the experience to visually assess the melting of the materials and determine whether they are being welded, as electricity does not accumulate at the joint. To achieve high-quality welding, it is crucial to manage temperature through uniform preheating, temperature measurement, and welding; it is not an exaggeration to say that the quality of welding is determined by the preheating! Welding allows for sizes that exceed the width of commercially available copper busbars and enables shapes that can only be achieved through welding, thus expanding the range of product shapes. "I wonder if we can make this shape...?" Please feel free to consult with us. In addition, we have a wide range of processing achievements for copper busbar products with thicknesses from 3mm to 20mm for transformer manufacturers and panel manufacturers in the Tokai region, processing 150 tons of copper annually as a specialized copper processing company. We have a consistent production system from order to processing, plating, and delivery/shipping, allowing us to respond quickly with drawings and order forms!
