Support for foreign language learning utilizing auditory sensitivity.

Keywords: Japanese as a foreign language, audio education, perception, auditory, sense of rhythm, language learning, autonomous learning

In recent years, the number of Japanese language learners with multilingual backgrounds has been increasing. It is expected that in the future, the number of foreign language users staying for short and long terms will also rise. In this context, this research aims to develop a system that supports effective Japanese phonetic learning for multilingual Japanese language learners and proposes it as a platform, conducting empirical research. In particular, this study focuses on the aspect that is often a major concern when learning a language, which is the "authenticity of the language." "Natural Japanese" is very subjective, and evaluations can vary greatly depending on the listener, making it elusive for learners of Japanese and complicating the learning process itself. Therefore, this research intends to explain the authenticity of the language more objectively by using evaluations based on indicators that simulate the perceptual processing that people actually engage in, and to connect this to language support. I believe that this research will serve as foundational research for the development of autonomous language learning applications in an increasingly diverse society.

Visualizing risks through flood disaster simulations!

Keywords: Flood, numerical simulation, human behavior, hazard map, Fugaku, flood control dam, rice paddy dam, climate change, collaboration with meteorology, flood insurance.

I studied abroad in Germany and obtained a doctorate, during which I conducted research on multiphase flow in underground environments. I created a model to simulate the transport processes of greenhouse gas methane in underground environments. In Europe, it is often the case that numerical computation experts and experimental/observational experts are separate, which is somewhat different from Japanese researchers who tend to conduct both experiments/observations and computations themselves to deepen their insights. I am not implying superiority, but I learned the rational thinking of Germans. After that, I returned to Japan and began research on flood disasters. While my focus is on numerical computation, I also examine community-based flood mitigation measures with local residents, conduct research related to climate change, study flood forecasting in collaboration with advanced weather simulations, research on paddy field dams, research on flood insurance, and develop evacuation behavior models, as well as conduct hydrological statistics research. Leveraging my experience in Germany's specialized numerical computation research, I also perform flood calculations using the Fugaku supercomputer.

Using an ergonomic approach to assist in equipment operation.

Keywords: Ergonomics, Human Error, Assistive Technology, Personalization, Emotional Design

As the aging population increases, accidents caused by errors in operating machinery have become a social issue. For example, while the number of traffic accidents has been on a declining trend in recent years, the number of accidents due to pedal misapplication has remained constant, indicating that measures are necessary. In particular, the issue of pedal misapplication by elderly drivers is a concern; however, in rural areas where public transportation is underdeveloped, cars are an indispensable means of transportation for daily life. It is important to have systems in place that ensure safety even when human errors, such as operational mistakes, occur, but it is even more crucial to design systems that minimize the likelihood of human error. In such a market, the development of widely adopted devices with universal design is essential, and research is being conducted on designing devices that are easy for everyone to use, as well as specifications that allow for adjustable flexibility according to the user.

Protecting the right to education for students with disabilities.

Keywords: Support for people with disabilities, Advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities, Educational support, Reasonable accommodation, Realization of a coexisting environment.

I have been involved in work related to consultation and support for people with disabilities for a long time, primarily in the fields of welfare and education. During this time, I experienced a shift from the medical model, which focuses on improving the disability itself for better social adaptation, to the social model, which aims to improve the social environment to make it more accessible for people with disabilities. This sparked my interest in the idea that everyone, regardless of age or condition, can live together in society, leading me to this research. If there is anything unique about my perspective, it may be that I approach issues from the four domains of "psychology," "welfare," "education," and "society." Additionally, I strive to understand and incorporate the concept of "community" in this context.
