Developed a technology to directly analyze the reactions on the catalyst surface under actual process conditions.

Developed a technology to directly analyze the reactions on the catalyst surface under actual process conditions, contributing to the research and development of catalysts aimed at achieving carbon neutrality, such as in fuel synthesis reactions.

Our company (hereinafter referred to as "TRC") is the first domestic contract analysis company to launch a high-sensitivity analysis service for catalyst surfaces in catalytic reactions under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, particularly mimicking actual processes, using infrared spectroscopy. A catalyst is a substance that promotes a chemical reaction without changing itself before and after the reaction. To improve the performance of a catalyst, it is crucial to investigate how substances adsorb and react on the catalyst's surface. TRC has made it possible to analyze catalytic reactions under controlled conditions of high temperature and high pressure (up to 700°C and 10 MPa) by using a special diffusion reflection infrared spectroscopy cell that can withstand high pressure, along with circulating reaction gases such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide. This enables the investigation of synthesis reactions of liquid hydrocarbons, which are alternative fuels to petroleum, under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions that mimic actual processes. In addition to optimizing the reaction conditions of catalysts, insights into the reaction mechanisms can also be obtained, which is expected to contribute to the design, development, and improvement of catalysts that are important for achieving carbon neutrality. Development of technology to distinguish and separate the handedness of molecules.

Keywords: Organic synthesis chemistry, chiral chemistry, optical resolution, organic crystals, supramolecular chemistry, liquid crystals, gels.

Just as humans have right-handed and left-handed preferences, the molecular world also contains right-handed and left-handed molecules (enantiomers). In applications such as food, pharmaceuticals, and fragrances, these left and right molecules can exhibit completely different effects, making the technology for separating mixtures into their respective enantiomers (optical resolution) important. While the technology of optical resolution has been known for a long time, systematic research on it is relatively scarce worldwide. Therefore, we are conducting research to make optical resolution a more user-friendly technology. For example, traditional methods often faced the problem of successfully obtaining only one type of molecule, either left or right. However, we have found a method that allows us to obtain both enantiomers simply by changing the solvent used. Additionally, we are working on developing methods to separate compounds that have been difficult to separate until now at a low cost, aiming to advance research towards methods that combine separation efficiency, versatility, and economic viability.
