We have developed the "BVM-13LH," which solves the issues of cumbersome balance operations and individual differences in measurement results associated with conventional ball pull-up viscometers, and further advanced it to create a device capable of measurements in a high-temperature environment of 2400°C.

This device is a glass viscometer that employs the penetration method. The conventional needle penetration method has been used for measuring in the high viscosity range (around 10^10 Pa·s), but this viscometer is a new measurement device that can measure from the molten state to the solidified state. In the low viscosity range (10^2 to 10^8 Pa·s), viscosity is measured by controlling the penetration speed and measuring the resistance (load) applied at that time. Measurement of the temperature dependence of viscosity changes in glass and phase changes in the liquid phase.

A rotational cylindrical viscometer is used as a measurement method for the low viscosity range of glass. This involves immersing a cylinder into a molten sample and measuring the torque generated by rotating either the inner or outer cylinder to determine the viscosity. In this case, a certain amount of sample is required, and the container for melting it, as well as the furnace for melting, need to be of a corresponding size. For example, when verifying the temperature dependence of glass viscosity, it is preferable to minimize the sample volume and use a heating furnace that responds well to temperature changes. Therefore, this viscometer adopts a parallel plate rotation method that allows viscosity measurement with a small amount of sample and has been designed to keep the heating furnace as compact as possible. For measuring the viscosity of molten salts in high-temperature conditions, there are methods such as the ball uplift method and the rotating cylinder method (inner cylinder rotation type and outer cylinder rotation type). This glass viscometer belongs to the outer cylinder rotation type, and it is a device that allows for the direct measurement of the torque generated on the inner cylinder (sensor) by rotating the outer cylinder using a load cell. Compared to conventional glass viscometers, it enables measurements that are closer to the absolute viscosity values.
