One of the advantages of pulse YAG laser welding is that it allows for welding with high peak and short pulses, resulting in minimal heat impact. However, if welding is performed with excessive energy, metal spatter, known as "spatter," can occur due to the compatibility of the metals, gap precision, and material properties. If the causes of spatter generation are understood, some countermeasures can be implemented. Fundamentally, it is possible that the processing conditions are not appropriate at the time of occurrence. There are various parameters such as the type of laser welding machine, emission unit, optical system of the optical fiber, setting conditions, and shielding gas. Here are some examples of measures taken against spatter.
