Difficult-to-machine materials: Titanium (Ti)

It has excellent properties such as corrosion resistance, heat resistance, tensile strength, and lightweight.

The three main characteristics of "Titanium (Ti)" as a metal material are said to be "light," "strong," and "corrosion-resistant." However, when machining, its excellent material properties can lead to problems such as shortened tool life and an increased tendency for chips to ignite, positioning it as a difficult-to-cut material. Additionally, it has poor thermal conductivity, and there is a tendency for alloying with the main components of cutting tools at cutting temperature ranges, as well as a stronger tendency to undergo chemical reactions. Therefore, it is necessary to use cutting machines with high rigidity and appropriate tools while simultaneously taking measures to reduce cutting speed and lower cutting temperatures. [Processing Examples] - Shafts - Plates - Sensor shoes - Pins - Attachments *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Ideal for the medical field, such as catheter pipes and forceps manufacturing! Titanium alloy β-titanium.

Outstanding superelasticity and biocompatibility make it a key player in the medical field! High-strength and excellent corrosion resistance β-titanium.

Beta titanium is a metal that excels in strength and high corrosion resistance compared to stainless steel, and it has excellent spring properties (low Young's modulus) that allow it to return to its original shape even after bending. Due to its strength, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, it is increasingly being adopted as a medical instrument in the medical field. For example, catheters and stents that enter blood vessels, as well as surgical scissors (forceps), require superelasticity. Additionally, in MRI surgeries, materials that do not cause artifacts (false images) when images are displayed on a monitor and are non-magnetic are required, making beta titanium, which possesses both properties, a focus of attention. 【Features】 ■ High strength ■ Excellent corrosion resistance ■ Biocompatibility not found in stainless steel ■ Prevention of artifacts in MRI *For more details, please download the catalog or contact us.

Excellent superelasticity makes it ideal for analytical fields such as liquid medicine pipes! Titanium alloy β-titanium.

Superior chemical resistance and corrosion resistance compared to stainless steel, excelling in the analysis field with chemical pipes and more!

Beta titanium is a metal that excels in strength and high corrosion resistance compared to stainless steel, and it has excellent spring properties (low Young's modulus) that allow it to return to its original shape even after bending. Due to its superelasticity that allows it to return to its original shape and its durability when heat-treated, beta titanium pipes are being adopted. The durability after heat treatment is more than four times that of stainless steel, which reduces the frequency of replacement for consumable parts and leads to a reduction in total costs. Additionally, beta titanium pipes, which have superior chemical resistance and corrosion resistance compared to stainless steel, are used in analysis nozzles. Furthermore, beta titanium, which does not contain iron, is gaining attention because the iron component in stainless steel can cause erroneous analyses. 【Features】 ■ Superelasticity that withstands bending due to mechanical malfunction ■ Durability over four times that of SUS when heat-treated ■ Longer lifespan of consumable parts ■ Iron-free *For more details, please download the catalog or contact us.

Titanium <Characteristics and Drawbacks>

Excellent corrosion resistance! Strong against chlorides, which are a weakness of stainless steel, and overwhelmingly resistant to seawater.

We would like to introduce the characteristics and drawbacks of our material "Titanium." The characteristics include being lightweight and strong (among practical metals, it has one of the highest specific strengths), with a melting point of approximately 1,650°C, which is quite high. It generates a highly stable passive film that surpasses stainless steel. The drawbacks include its high strength, which can lead to tool damage or wear, making titanium classified as a difficult-to-machine material. It is indeed challenging to process and prone to deformation. 【Characteristics】 ■ Lightweight and strong (among practical metals, it has one of the highest specific strengths) ■ High melting point ■ Excellent corrosion resistance ■ Biocompatible *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Titanium <Machinability in Cutting Processes>

Used for components embedded in the human body and aerospace-related parts! Demonstrating true value across a wide range of industries.

We would like to introduce the machinability of "titanium," classified as a difficult-to-cut material, using our compatible materials for cutting processing. The machinability is poor, with stickiness causing chips to adhere to the tools, which often necessitates multiple processes (such as rough machining → semi-finishing → finishing), particularly making it time-consuming to achieve precision machining. We are working to reduce costs by minimizing tool wear through the use of tools with suitable coatings, featuring uneven division and uneven lead. [Reasons for Difficult Machining] - Heat generated during cutting accumulates in the tool, shortening tool life. - The material is prone to deformation during processing, making it difficult to achieve dimensional accuracy. - Due to low resistance to friction, fine chips are produced during machining. - Being chemically active, it has a high flammability, making it prone to ignition. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Bird damage prevention product Ko-Torikonaito Titanium

For those troubled by bird damage! The sparkling titanium color keeps birds away!

"Co-Torikonite Titanium" is the perfect product for those troubled by bird damage, as its sparkling titanium color deters birds. For some reason, birds do not perch on titanium monuments or roofs. The bird deterrent effect has been confirmed through tests conducted on farms, factories, and residential homes. The coloration of titanium appears similar to living organisms from a bird's perspective. I believe they do not want to perch where there are different organisms. There are titanium monuments across the country, but there have been no reports of birds perching on them for over 15 years. It seems that birds cannot learn about titanium. Please decide where to install "Co-Torikonite Titanium" from the bird's viewpoint. The key is to ensure it is always within the birds' line of sight. Be careful, as birds will approach when it stops spinning. For more details, please contact us or refer to the catalog.

Solid lubricants and light-diffusing particles, high aspect ratio plate-like fillers, titanium phosphate.

By adding it to grease and lubricants, improvements in seizure resistance and wear resistance are expected. Please also consider its application to light diffusion films.

Titanium phosphate is a plate-shaped filler with characteristics such as high refractive index (1.79), high whiteness, and photocatalytic inactivity. Our unique synthesis technology allows us to provide particles with uniform size and thickness. In recent years, to reduce the emissions of PFAS, which are difficult to decompose and have the potential for long-term environmental persistence, regulations are being considered in Europe, leading to a narrowing of material options in the solid lubricant industry. Titanium phosphate has the following three characteristics as a solid lubricant: 1) When added to grease, it improves durability (resistance to seizure and wear). 2) Due to its high whiteness, it does not cause black contamination in the surrounding area. 3) Depending on the particle size, it can maintain its plate-like shape up to around 700°C. Additionally, it tends to excel in durability compared to common solid lubricants such as molybdenum disulfide, PTFE, and boron nitride. Furthermore, titanium phosphate has the following optical characteristics: - It achieves both light diffusion and light transmission. Light-diffusing particles represented by acrylic particles and silicone particles also have excellent light diffusion properties, but materials that can achieve compatibility with light transmission are rare, making it promising for applications in light-diffusing films and light-diffusing plates.
