Processing technology High-speed salt bath heat treatment

The heating retention period can be individually set, and salt bath quenching prevents quenching distortion and cracking.

Iwata Tool conducts salt bath heat treatment services for both its own products and external products as a tool manufacturer. Utilizing the know-how of high-speed tools, we confidently carry out the treatment. Salt bath heat treatment has many advantages that vacuum heat treatment does not offer. Particularly for tools requiring toughness, such as drills and punches, there is currently nothing superior to salt bath heat treatment. Additionally, because salt bath heat treatment is processed sequentially rather than in batches, appropriate treatment is applied regardless of the size of the lot. As a result, we can flexibly accommodate small lots. Furthermore, the cooling capacity of the salt bath is very rapid, allowing for heat treatment of large items that is impossible with other heat treatment methods. A uniform heating state is achieved, resulting in stable quenching hardness. After heat treatment, all products undergo long hours of washing, pickling, and rust prevention neutralization. Additionally, upon request, we also perform shot blasting with glass beads and apply rust prevention oil. For more details, please contact us or refer to our catalog.

Salt bath (saline bath) heat treatment

【Metal Heat Treatment】Super short delivery time with shipment within 24 hours from reception! We also accommodate small lot hardening starting from just one pin!

**About Salt Baths** A salt solution is created by heating and melting chemicals such as potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and sodium nitrite. This is a quenching method where products are heated in a salt bath quenching tank filled with salt solution and then rapidly cooled with low-temperature salt solution. The salt solution has superior heat transfer compared to gases, allowing heat to be evenly transmitted to the object. Since the salt solution directly contacts the object, it minimizes cooling unevenness during cooling, leading to stabilization of the structure and preventing risks of hardness unevenness, distortion, and cracking. **Our Features** We perform quenching by heating above 800°C in a pit-type carburizing furnace and rapidly cooling in a salt bath at 170°C to 180°C. By rapidly cooling, even materials like S45C, which are difficult to harden, achieve higher hardness compared to oil cooling. Additionally, as mentioned above, this reduces the risks of hardness unevenness, distortion, and cracking. **Materials Suitable for Salt Baths** Carbon steel (S45C, S50C) Carbon tool steel (SK2, SK4, SK5, SK6, SK7) Structural steel (SS material, SCM435) Bearing steel (SUJ2), etc. *For more details, please refer to the PDF or feel free to contact us.*

Salt Bath / Oustenber

Same-day response is possible! Since we can perform both heat treatment and surface treatment, we can handle everything consistently with a single request.

Our company offers processing using salt baths and austempering. The advantage of salt baths is their flexibility. Unlike large equipment that requires waiting for a batch to be completed, the ease of adjustment allows for shorter delivery times. Austempering is a type of quenching and tempering that results in less deformation and distortion compared to conventional quenching and tempering. It also has greater toughness and higher impact resistance, so even at the same hardness, the strength is completely different from that of conventional quenching and tempering. 【Features】 ■ Same-day response available ■ Salt bath: Achieves short delivery times with ease of adjustment ■ Salt bath: Can suppress bending and deformation ■ Austempering: Processing with less deformation and distortion compared to conventional quenching and tempering ■ Austempering: Greater toughness and higher impact resistance *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
