We would like to introduce a case study of processing crankshafts for agricultural machinery engines at our company. In the heat treatment of the shafts, we first perform carburizing and high-frequency quenching. By heating the workpiece to a high temperature and then rapidly cooling it, we can increase its hardness. While quenching increases hardness, it also has the disadvantage of making the material brittle. Therefore, we perform tempering to enhance toughness (ductility).
