[Case Study on Trouble Improvement] Foaming in the Papermaking Process

Case Study: Foam in White Water Silos Reduced by Using the Optimal Defoamer!

Case Summary ■ Challenge Excessive foaming in white water silos, with limited effect even after adding defoamer. To prevent foam overflow from the silo, large amounts of defoamer were continuously added. ■ Approach A comparative lab evaluation was conducted using actual white water samples. Based on the results, a different type of defoamer was proposed. ■ Results In on-site trials, the new defoamer achieved better performance even with only one-third of the previous dosage, and although its unit price was 1.8 times higher, the total cost was reduced by 40%. For more details, please refer to the PDF brochure or feel free to contact us.

Solid defoaming agents 'Bisfoam BV, Bisfoam BVF'

Have you ever had trouble with "bubbles" in wastewater treatment? Just put it in a net and hang it up, and the bubbles will disappear easily.

- The solid defoaming agents "Bisfoam BV" and "Bisfoam BVF" solve problems caused by foam by being installed in areas where foaming occurs, such as drains. - When foam or similar substances adhere, the active ingredients gradually dissolve, demonstrating defoaming effects. ● Silicone type "Bisfoam BV" ● Industry's first! Non-silicone type "Bisfoam BVF" - "Bisfoam BV" and "Bisfoam BVF" are versatile defoaming agents with defoaming and anti-foaming properties applicable to all water-based foaming liquids. They are primarily recommended for use in the following industries and processes: ○ Metal processing industry (cutting oils, lubricants, plating, etc.) ○ Petrochemical industry (during refining and distillation) ○ Slate and cement industry ○ Textile industry (starching, scouring, dyeing, bleaching, etc.) ○ Pulp and paper industry (pulp, coating liquids, etc.) ○ Fertilizer industry ○ Paint industry (water-based paints, etc.) ○ Resin, latex, and synthetic rubber industries They are also suitable for foaming in general industrial wastewater, including that from chemical industries and urban sewage.

Form out

Suppresses bubbles after use! This is a defoamer developed specifically for dampening water in offset printing.

We would like to introduce the water-based defoamer "Form Out" handled by Nikken Chemical Research Institute. In offset printing, the excessive generation of air bubbles in the dampening water can cause various troubles. If air bubbles generated in the circulation tank are sent to the water fountain, it can reproduce bubble patterns on the solid areas and screens of the printed material. Additionally, bubbles overflowing from the circulation tank can wet the electrical components of the equipment, leading to electrical leakage accidents. This product can instantly eliminate air bubbles, helping to maintain print quality and prevent electrical leakage accidents. 【Features】 ■ Water-based ■ Developed specifically for dampening water in offset printing ■ Can eliminate bubbles with a small amount by stirring after addition ■ Also suppresses bubbles after use *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Defoamer/Antifoam Agent for Solvent-Free and Solvent-Based Paints BYK-1760

Emission-free silicone and polymer-based defoamers and degassing agents for solvent-free and solvent-based paints, adhesives, sealants, and casting resins.

BYK-1760 is a newly developed defoamer that enables the rapid and efficient removal of air from the system without altering optical or mechanical properties. This highly effective additive is primarily recommended for solvent-free systems. The epoxy functional groups contained in the additive allow for fixation in the polymer matrix, preventing negative side effects such as increased slip. Furthermore, BYK-1760 is also recommended for plastic applications (such as casting resins) as well as adhesives and sealants. This additive also demonstrates a wide range of properties in these applications.

Idea Box for Smooth and Smart Experimentation Vol. 2

Dispersion stabilization due to electrostatic repulsion is easily visible! Observing dispersed red pigment.

Regarding the stabilization of particle dispersion, it is explained that stabilization occurs due to electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance. Stabilization through steric hindrance is a matter of nanoscale, so it is not visible. In contrast, electrostatic repulsion is relatively easy to understand, such as through zeta potential. However, there is also an impression that measurements from instruments yield numbers that are somewhat unclear. Here, we will introduce approaches that are useful in the experimental field for those who actually conduct coating, dispersion, application, and drying experiments. This section focuses on dispersion stabilization. *For detailed content of the article, please refer to the PDF materials. For more information, feel free to contact us.*

Idea Box for Smooth and Smart Experimentation vol. 3

When choosing a dispersant, compatibility is the first step; now, let's introduce what the next key points are.

If the dispersant does not mix into the system, it will not distribute evenly in the liquid. First, compatibility is the primary point. Naturally, if it does not adsorb onto the surface of the particles that need to be dispersed, stabilization of the dispersion will not begin. The adsorption characteristics are the second point. In experiments, evaluations are conducted on the viscosity and particle size distribution of the dispersion, the viscosity and particle size distribution of the coating liquid, and the gloss, haze, transparency, and color name after application and drying. The third point is the evaluation in the final material system. *For detailed content of the article, please refer to the PDF document. For more information, feel free to contact us.*

Measurement of surface tension of membranes, do not misinterpret the data. Introducing approaches useful in the experimental field.

Very simple measuring devices are commercially available. This method measures surface tension and surface free energy from the contact angle of liquids. By dropping a liquid with known surface tension (such as water or cyclohexane) onto a coating or solid, the contact angle can be measured. The surface free energy (dispersive component, polar component, total) can be calculated from the contact angles of multiple liquids. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF document.
