We would like to introduce a case where the work efficiency was significantly improved by changing the tip angle of the drill. There is a limit to the number of tools that can be attached to the machining machine, and processing cannot be done without removing something. As a result, the work was very inefficient due to having to replace the cutting tools each time. In response to this issue, our company modified the tip angle of the straight drill to 90°, allowing it to have three functions: positioning, drilling, and chamfering. As a result, we were able to consolidate three cutting tools into one drill, successfully achieving a significant reduction in work time. The workpiece is SKD61 HRC43, and the equipment used is a vertical machining center BBT30. The cutting conditions were Vc 40 m/min and f 0.15 mm/rev (internal water-soluble 1 MPa). Improved lifespan compared to untreated products! Introducing the results of cutting tests for I-NIX treated drills.

At the Ibaraki Prefectural Industrial Research Institute, cutting tests were conducted using drills (SKH9) and end mills (SKH9) that were treated with I-NIX. Regarding the cutting tests, the lifespan improved by approximately 1.7 times for the Φ6.9 drill and 1.5 times for the Φ11 drill. Additionally, concerning hardness (SCM3), the surface hardness after quenching at temperatures of 750°C, 790°C, and 830°C was approximately Hv≓850, remaining almost constant; however, at 880°C, it decreased to Hv≓570. [Case Summary] ■ Test: Conducted cutting tests using drills (SKH9) and end mills (SKH9) treated with I-NIX. ■ Results: - Cutting tests: Lifespan improved by approximately 1.7 times for the Φ6.9 drill and 1.5 times for the Φ11 drill. - Hardness (SCM3): Surface hardness after quenching at temperatures of 750°C, 790°C, and 830°C was approximately Hv≓850, remaining almost constant. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
