Examples of Digital Metal Usage - Aiming for Manned Spaceflight
Here are examples of the adoption of Digital Metal.
Copenhagen Suborbitals (hereafter referred to as CopSub) is a non-profit organization engaged in space development, aiming for Denmark's first manned spaceflight with the small crewed rocket Spica. CopSub has a friendly activity style, raising funds through crowdfunding and sharing the manufacturing and experimental processes on YouTube. CopSub is currently testing a stainless steel fuel injector, which was 3D printed using Digital Metal's DM P2500 printer, for the crewed rocket engine BPM100. The injector is traditionally made by welding multiple parts together, requiring careful inspection at all welded joints. In contrast, while 3D printed parts are generally more expensive, they can be produced as a single piece, reducing inspection labor and significantly lowering overall costs (though this is not explained in the video). Please check out the introduction of the 3D printed injector and the combustion test.
