We would like to introduce a case where our products were used for the sample containment brought back by Hayabusa2 (the asteroid exploration spacecraft). We manufactured and provided a needle with a pointed tip made from non-magnetic and relatively lightweight element, titanium 64. In this context, we received a request from a medical device manufacturing customer for "φ0.08mm and 60mm in length with straight processing and tip processing." Straight processing of metal wire becomes more difficult as the diameter decreases, making it easier to break and bend, and the longer the length, the higher the difficulty level. The request for tip processing was for "sharp processing." In needle tip processing, the thinner the needle, the more challenging the processing becomes, and prior to that, handling (automated transport) itself becomes difficult. Despite these challenging conditions, we achieved stable precision. Tungsten, which is used in projectiles due to its high density and hardness, and titanium, which has strength greater than steel, are considered difficult-to-cut materials.
