The state-owned railway company based in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, wanted to continue using efficient casters based on Blickle's RD series. However, the wheel width was narrow, and there were instances where the wheels would drop off the rails when crossing them. Therefore, after discussing the issues and width, and visiting the site to understand the situation, we collaborated with the company to design an appropriate solution and manufactured a bolt-mounted three-wheel caster with a longer wheel axle. The company requested the use of a polyurethane tread "Blickle Softhane" with a heavy-duty specification for the middle wheel, which has low rolling resistance. For the outer two wheels of this wheel (ALST series), we used the Blickle Softhane wheels (RD series) with a two-layer solid rubber tire that has been widely used by SBB and has undergone sufficient trials.
