Flare is unwanted light in an image caused by light reflecting off various surfaces within the lens and camera. Flare generates a diffuse veil over the image field, significantly degrading image quality and leading to a decrease in contrast. The TE281 is a flare measurement chart designed in accordance with the ISO 18844 standard for measuring flare (Image Flare) in digital cameras. The TE281 features a total of 17 holes arranged diagonally across the chart, and light traps (super black holes) are attached to each hole from the back of the chart for use. The super black hole acts like a blackout curtain to emphasize black, absorbing a high percentage of light to produce the lowest possible black level. The ideal light source for the TE281 is a standard lighting system for reflective charts, such as Studio Lights. *Flare measurement with the TE281 only targets flare caused by light within the field of view of the test camera module. **The TE281 standard is a reflective chart of size A1066, but custom charts in a transmissive version can also be provided upon request.

The camSPECS plate "TE292" was developed as an option for the measurement device "camSPECS," where all interference filters are mounted on a single "test chart," to be used with the LE7, a transmission chart integral sphere light source equipped with a highly uniform iQ-LED light source. In contrast to the halogen light source of the camSPECS device, the iQ-LED light source of the LE7 can generate custom spectra that replicate multiple light sources for camera characterization and calibration. The TE292 comes in two versions with different filter diameters (standard version TE292A and XL version TE292B), as well as a VIS-IR version TE292B-VIS-IR that extends the wavelength range from 380nm to 1050nm, all of which include the camSPECS software (dedicated software for operating camSPECS products). Unlike the camSPECS device, the TE292 cannot be used alone, so a uniform lighting device like the LE7 is required. It can be used with any version or variation of the LE7, but is sold separately from the LE7.

The image quality of scanners and cameras is typically tested using a chart that is one step superior to the expected test results of the scanner. The TE240, which measures dynamic range in accordance with ISO standard 21550, is prepared with both transmission and reflection charts. In the case of reflection, the highest contrast is limited to approximately 2.4 density. For transmission, users can choose a density between 4.0 and 6.0. The IT8 color target (TE258) is the standard chart for color profile creation. Image Engineering offers both reflection and transmission charts with wide color gamut. The U.S. Air Force resolution chart TE250 (transmission) is used for visual resolution analysis. Resolution measurement of scanners in accordance with ISO standard 16067 is traditionally conducted using the inclined edge target QA-62. This chart is currently available only in reflection.

Most medical imaging applications are designed to capture images at a microscopic (or small) scale. Therefore, the test charts must also be small. To uniformly illuminate the final image with the same light source, we recommend the CAL4 integrating sphere with a diameter of 30 cm, which comes with four types of connection adapters for various endoscope light sources. (Note: The CAL4 does not come equipped with light sources such as iQ-LED.) The opening of this integrating sphere features a 50x50 mm output window with a slot for a D35 size chart. For resolution measurement, a D35 size Siemens star TE253 9x (compliant with ISO standard 12233:2014) is recommended. For measuring OECF, dynamic range, noise, etc., a D35 size TE240 chart with 24 gray patches (compliant with ISO 21550) is recommended. For color evaluation, the transmissive Calibrite ColorChecker TE188 (D35 size) is recommended, and for visual assessment, the U.S. Air Force resolution chart TE250 for 35mm film (D35 size) is recommended.

For the various applications of cameras in industrial image processing, the necessary conditions for cameras change depending on the application. Image processing, which demonstrates a wide range of true capabilities, provides data to verify quality, identify parts, read codes, and optimize manufacturing processes, while also controlling machines. Recommended products for machine vision evaluation allow for testing of key quality criteria such as dynamic range, resolution, sensitivity, noise, and frame rate, including optical systems and sensors. In machine vision, lighting is usually controllable. Therefore, a normal contrast of 10,000:1 is sufficient for the OECF chart. However, since tone levels are used for automatic detection and evaluation of various elements in images, it is helpful to measure the OECF in as much detail as possible. For this reason, the iQ-LED equipped lighting device (integrating sphere) LE7 for transmission charts and the 36 gray patch chart TE269B are recommended. For color, resolution, distortion, and shading, standard charts (TE253 9x, TE230, TE251, TE255) can be analyzed using the image analysis software iQ-Analyzer-X.

There is no reliable method to measure dynamic range without the use of a transmission chart. Image Engineering offers the TE264, which measures noise, OECF, dynamic range, and ISO speed (in accordance with ISO standards 14524, 15739, and 12232). Transmission charts require uniform lighting, and for this purpose, the iQ-LED equipped transmission chart lighting device (integrating sphere) LE7 is an excellent choice. By illuminating the TE264 with an integrating sphere equipped with an iQ-LED light source, you can achieve a highly uniform light source for measuring brightness, color, and shading (in accordance with ISO standard 17957) along with the TE255. For reflection charts, TE230 (Calibrite ColorChecker SG) is used for color reproduction, TE251 (in accordance with ISO standard 17850) for distortion and lateral chromatic aberration, and TE253 9x (in accordance with ISO standard 12233:2014) for resolution. For evaluating all images captured with the sample camera, the image analysis software iQ-Analyzer-X is recommended.

In the field of in-vehicle camera imaging, customer demands are currently overwhelmingly focused on two quality parameters: high dynamic range combined with OECF and spatial resolution. Therefore, the recommended light sources for image quality evaluation in the automotive industry are the LE7, an illumination device for transmission charts equipped with iQ-LED (integrating sphere), or the LG3, a high-intensity flicker-free lighting device. The recommended charts are the OECF chart TE269B (measurable dynamic range of 1,000,000:1 / 120dB) or TE269C (measurable dynamic range of 5,000,000:1 / 134dB). Additionally, the reflective chart TE261 with an inclined edge of size A1066 allows for the measurement of SFR (spatial frequency response) even for cameras with a high level of geometric distortion. These quality parameters can be analyzed using the image analysis software iQ-Analyzer-X.

The continuous development of camera technology is expanding the requirements for image technology in the security field. New features such as motion and facial recognition have been added as standard. The amount of data transferred continues to increase, and consequently, the quality of image materials is required to be high. This enables software-based evaluation systems. Security cameras must operate under various conditions, utilizing LED lights and other means, from direct sunlight to extremely low brightness levels. Since they must function under high contrast levels in direct sunlight, cameras need to have a high dynamic range, and it is optimal to use TE269C (compliant with IEC62676-5 video surveillance camera standards) in front of high-intensity flicker lighting devices like LG3. For resolution, optical parameters, and other specifications, you can use standard charts (TE253 9x, TE251) in combination with the image analysis software iQ-Analyzer-X.

Testing cameras that cannot be manually adjusted to match lighting conditions is always a challenge, especially for mobile phone camera modules such as those found in smartphones. The recommended product for evaluating mobile phone and smartphone image quality includes the multipurpose chart TE42. This chart allows for the assessment of various image quality performance metrics such as resolution, distortion, color (color reproduction), and texture loss, all in a single image. To conduct OECF and noise measurements in accordance with ISO standards 14524 and 15739, the TE270X is uniformly illuminated using the iQ-LED equipped lighting device (integrating sphere) LE7. This special chart is equipped with two polarizing filters at its center to facilitate automatic exposure control. By replacing the chart with the TE255 diffuser plate, it can be used to measure color and shading, which are particularly problematic for small camera modules. The captured images are evaluated using the image analysis software iQ-Analyzer-X.

The low-contrast sine wave Siemens star is extremely suitable for analyzing texture loss, specifically the absence of fine details with low contrast, and the loss of texture in imaging systems occurs due to noise reduction and other image processing techniques. The future ISO standard 195767-1 for texture analysis is established using the method of low-contrast Siemens stars. The resolution module of ImageEngineering's analysis software "iQ-Analyzer" includes the new product "TE280" chart, supporting the analysis of Siemens stars. We also offer "TE276," which is composed of surrounding markers necessary for the structure of fallen leaves, alignment, and linearization. 【Product Lineup】 ■TE280 ■TE276 *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

When testing digital cameras, an important metric is resolution. The resolution that complies with ISO standard 12233 (digital still cameras) and ISO standard 16067 (scanners) refers to the ability of an image capture device to reproduce the details of the scene being photographed. What is important here is that the number of pixels is not the same as resolution. The number of pixels is necessary to achieve the required resolution, but not only optical components such as lenses and aliasing removal filters, but also image processing significantly affects the camera's resolution. Additionally, the smaller the number of pixels, the greater the impact of optical components on the resulting resolution. We offer the "TE253" sine wave Siemens star chart, which allows resolution analysis at nine positions within the image, as well as the "TE268" in our lineup. [Features] ■ Variable aspect ratio (TE253 9x) ■ Fixed aspect ratios: 4:3 and 3:2 (TE268) *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Measuring the camera's characteristic curve is one of the important tests. The function obtained as a result is called the Optical-Electrical Conversion Function (OECF). OECF measurements can be conducted based on ISO standards 14524 and 15739, using one of the well-known charts: "TE264," "TE269," or "TE270." These standard charts use a halftone process to create gray levels on lithographic film. For waveform monitors, "TE223" with a horizontal grayscale is recommended. Cameras without manual exposure control can be tested using "TE270X." 【Main OECF Charts】 ■TE269: OECF Chart (Compliant with ISO standard 15739) ■TE264: OECF20 Chart (Compliant with ISO standards 14524 / 15739) ■TE223: HDTV Logarithmic Grayscale Test Chart ■TE270X: OECF Chart (Compliant with ISO standards 14524 / 15739) *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

The color reproduction test chart (color chart) is used to check the quality of a camera's color correction (reproducibility). On the other hand, this can also be seen as a subjective analysis of preferred colors and a measurement of color reproduction. In the latter case, the image is converted to the CIELAB space, and the color values are compared with the measured colors of the original target. A good method is to use the camSPECS device to measure spectral sensitivity. A commonly used chart for cameras in this field is the X-Rite ColorChecker, but ImageEngineering sells it as "TE188," while the IT8 for scanners is sold as "TE258." "TE226" is a transparent extended version of the ColorChecker. For cameras, the extended version becomes the X-Rite ColorChecker SG, which is sold as "TE230" and has become the standard test chart. [Features] ■ Used to check the quality of a camera's color correction (reproducibility). * For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
