When visiting processing sites, I often hear the following challenges: - There are concerns about CAM and manually written NC programs. - There have been experiences of machine interference. - There have been experiences of damaging clamps and tools. - There have been experiences of reprocessing due to accuracy issues. - There are problems with communication between design and the site. Avoiding machine interference and tool damage is a significant challenge at any processing site.

Injection molding is performed within a closed mold throughout the entire process from resin filling to cooling. As a result, it is said to be very difficult to identify the factors causing defects in the molded products. In some cases, the know-how of experienced technicians on-site can be utilized to improve defects, but because this know-how is a black box, sharing information becomes challenging. For example, when significant warping occurs in a product, various potential causes can be cited, such as whether it is due to the fibers of the reinforcing material or temperature differences. However, determining the cause and making improvements based solely on the molded product is considered difficult without incurring substantial human and time costs. Therefore, visualizing the interior of the mold has become necessary for improving productivity, reducing costs, and developing high-value-added products.

The manufacturing industry is currently facing various challenges. One of the challenges is the aging workforce. With the retirement of veteran employees, it becomes difficult to maintain the quality of work when the skills and know-how developed over many years are lost. Additionally, there is the reality that there is not enough time to invest in training new employees.

3D modeling and the digitization of physical objects (reverse engineering) are tasks that cannot be expedited regardless of the systems used, as they require human effort. Therefore, during short deadlines or busy periods, the lack of manpower becomes a significant challenge. Once the mold shaping data is prepared, the work of mold splitting begins. Various systems are equipped with different functions to separate the core and cavity. For example, there are functions for gradient angle analysis to detect undercut areas, as well as features that automatically create parting lines and parting surfaces. Cimatron also comes standard with corresponding analysis functions and the ability to create parting surfaces in its model design application. However, for models with complex shapes, mold splitting requires very challenging work, and even highly skilled operators cannot easily achieve the separation.
