The anion analysis service measures inorganic ions such as F⁻, Cl⁻, Br⁻, I⁻, as well as NO₂⁻, NO₃⁻, SO₄²⁻, and PO₄³⁻ using an IC (ion chromatograph). These inorganic anions can cause corrosion, so the results obtained can be used for failure analysis.

In the cleanliness analysis service, cations are measured using ICP and anions are measured using IC, conducting qualitative or quantitative analysis. The results are evaluated as the cleanliness of products such as substrates and the effectiveness of the cleaning process. Based on IPC-TM-650, similar methods can be used to evaluate the cleanliness of products other than substrates.

In our inorganic gas analysis service, we measure various inorganic gases (including some organic gases). Nitrogen, oxygen, and helium are analyzed using GC-TCD, while hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ethane, propane, and ethylene are analyzed using GC-BID. We also conduct measurements combined with various tests.

Residual solvents are used in the evaluation of various products such as plastics and other polymer materials, pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics. In the residual solvent analysis service, samples are placed in headspace vials, and the gases generated after heating are analyzed using GC-MS. Depending on the sample and purpose, it is also possible to conduct the analysis under higher temperature conditions using thermal desorption GC-MS.

VOC stands for volatile organic compounds and is one of the causes of suspended particulate matter and photochemical oxidants. These substances contribute to air pollution and raise concerns about their impact on human health, which is why regulations through emission controls and voluntary initiatives are being promoted. In VOC analysis services, measurement of items classified as VOCs is conducted using heated desorption GC-MS and HPLC methods.

Gases emitted from the materials of the product and surrounding materials can cause product defects. Our outgassing analysis service measures these emitted gases, using GC-MS for organic gases (volatile organic compounds) and GC-TCD or GC-BID for inorganic gases. Additionally, we can suggest analysis items and methods based on the condition of the sample and the purpose of the analysis. Furthermore, it is also possible to conduct analysis on gases emitted under specified conditions.

Polymeric materials such as resins are blended with various additives to impart functionality. Additives include antioxidants, lubricants, and plasticizers. The additive analysis service extracts these through pretreatment and conducts analysis using GC-MS or LC-MS.

Unlike metal materials, polymer materials such as plastics are less prone to corrosion like rust; however, they can deteriorate due to heat and ultraviolet light. Yellowing, commonly seen in plastics, is one such example. In degradation analysis services, FT-IR is used to evaluate the degree of deterioration in such samples. The results can be utilized as a material for identifying the cause of defects in products that show signs of damage.

Organic acids are a general term for organic compounds that contain acids, such as acetic acid and citric acid. Organic acids are found in many foods and are used in various applications, including industrial cleaning agents, paints, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. At JTL, we measure these organic acids using HPLC and LC-MS/MS. LC-MS/MS allows for a greater reduction of interference from impurities and enables high-sensitivity measurements.

In the event of a defective product, we can evaluate the residual oil content to help identify the cause. Our oil type qualitative analysis service uses GC-MS to identify the components contained in the oil, allowing us to assess what kind of oil the adhered substance contains. Furthermore, by providing a comparative oil sample, more detailed analysis can be conducted.

Residual oil content measurement is used as a countermeasure for defects and quality control for various oils used in manufacturing sites. In the residual oil content measurement service, residual oil content is measured using either the gravimetric method, FT-IR method, or GC-MS method. Depending on the shape, material, and purpose of the sample, we will propose one of these methods.

Isotopes with different mass numbers exist for atoms. In isotope analysis services, the ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer) is utilized to measure based on mass numbers, allowing for the measurement of isotopes for each element. Based on the measurement results, it is possible to determine and evaluate the isotope ratios.

In the halogen analysis service, we analyze the four halogens: F⁻, Cl⁻, Br⁻, and I⁻ using IC or ICP. Halogens can affect corrosion and may cause defects. Additionally, as the trend towards halogen-free resin products continues, halogen analysis is used as proof for products that do not contain halogens.

The identification analysis service uses FT-IR and GC-MS to identify compounds. FT-IR analyzes the infrared absorption spectrum of the compound molecules obtained through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, while GC-MS analyzes the mass spectrum of fragments obtained through electron ionization. The results of the identification analysis can be used to identify foreign substances, contaminants, or the materials and components of products.

ELV is a directive from the European Union that regulates the levels of four substances in automobiles, end-of-life vehicles, and their parts and materials: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), and hexavalent chromium (Cr6+). RoHS is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of six substances in electrical and electronic equipment: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). (Note: Four new types of phthalate esters have been added.) RoHS screening analysis allows for the rapid screening of substances regulated by the RoHS/ELV directives (Pb, Hg, Cd, total Cr, total Br) and chlorine in resins.
