Be cautious of slip accidents when driving through tunnels in winter. During the winter months, tunnels can be dangerous due to hidden icy patches in the darkness and sudden changes in road conditions at the entrances and exits. In the Nagate Tunnel on the main local road Yonezawa-Takahata in Yamagata Prefecture, 14 traffic accidents occurred within two years after its opening in 2013. Of these, 11 were caused by slips due to road surface freezing. In response, in 2015, a freezing prevention solution automatic spraying device called "Tokebo" was installed. This dramatically improved road conditions and achieved zero accidents caused by freezing slips. **Features of the freezing prevention solution automatic spraying device "Tokebo":** - Compact one-box type weighing 250 kg - Can be moved and installed as needed at necessary times and locations - Operates on solar panels and batteries, eliminating the need for commercial power - Fully automatic operation using snowfall and temperature sensors and a timer - Compatible with various freezing prevention solutions It is also active at traffic hubs across the country, not just in tunnels!

Free membership registrationAt the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in November 2022, countries around the world reaffirmed their commitment to "limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels." We must achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Japan Groundwater Development (JGD) has successfully implemented a groundwater heat energy utilization system that uses the 15°C thermal energy of groundwater for a non-water-spraying snow melting system, contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2021, through the development of high-efficiency groundwater thermal storage, we completed a 100% net-zero energy building (ZEB), which was previously considered difficult to achieve in snowy cold regions. Achieving the "1.5°C promise" is not easy, but there is no doubt that the 15°C thermal energy available to us is one of the key elements in fulfilling this promise. JGD will continue to pursue the potential of groundwater. *We plan to exhibit at the NEW Environmental Exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from May 24 to May 26. Please download detailed materials and various product services utilizing groundwater from the link below.*

Free membership registrationAchieving carbon neutrality by 2050 requires the widespread adoption of ZEB (Zero Energy Buildings). Japan Groundwater Development aims to promote ZEB in snowy and cold regions with our high-efficiency aquifer thermal energy storage system, launching the ZEB project in 2019. The demonstration facility was completed in February 2021. The demonstration facility employs a "total thermal supply system using high-efficiency aquifer thermal energy storage" that utilizes the thermal energy of groundwater for heating, cooling, hot water supply, and snow melting in winter. This high-efficiency aquifer thermal energy storage enables even more efficient system operation compared to conventional open-loop groundwater systems. The effect of storing cold energy in winter is particularly significant, allowing for free cooling in summer without operating heat pumps, greatly reducing summer electricity consumption. Snowy and cold regions face challenges with solar power generation during winter, making it difficult to achieve ZEB. However, the significant reduction in energy consumption allows the demonstration facility to realize ZEB. Japan Groundwater Development registered as a ZEB planner in 2021. As a leading company in geothermal and groundwater thermal energy, we are here to assist everyone aiming for ZEB.

Free membership registrationWe have been working for many years on the effective use of groundwater, and this is the technology we have developed to create a more efficient heating and cooling system. In 2021, we advanced our project after being selected for NEDO's "Cost Reduction Technology Development for Renewable Energy Thermal Utilization," and we completed a 100% 'ZEB'. Groundwater has a constant temperature throughout the year, being cooler in summer and warmer in winter compared to the outside air. We effectively utilize the heat from groundwater for summer cooling and winter heating. By storing the thermal energy released during cooling and the cold energy released during heating in the groundwater for use in the next season's air conditioning, we create a highly efficient system. Furthermore, we enhance the thermal energy on the surface before returning it underground, thereby increasing efficiency. This is high-efficiency aquifer thermal storage. In the total thermal supply system using the high-efficiency aquifer thermal storage system, we address all thermal demands within buildings, including heating, cooling, hot water supply, and snow melting facilities, using groundwater heat. In 2021, JGD became the first company in Yamagata Prefecture to be registered as a ZEB planner. As a leading company in groundwater heat and geothermal heat, we are here to assist everyone aiming for ZEB transformation.

Free membership registrationThe "High Efficiency Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage Heating and Cooling System" achieves high efficiency in heating and cooling by using cold groundwater, which stores winter's chill, for summer cooling, and warm groundwater, which stores summer's heat, for winter heating. By combining it with solar collectors and non-water-spraying snow melting facilities, the amount of stored heat is significantly enhanced. It has been established as a high-efficiency system that can utilize groundwater in more advantageous temperature ranges. In the fiscal year 2020, it received both the "Minister of the Environment Award for Climate Change Action" and the "Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award for New Energy Grand Prize." [Features] - Utilizes cooling waste heat (thermal energy) as a heating source and heating waste heat (cooling energy) as a cooling source. - Contributes to reducing summer road surface temperatures by burying pipes in parking spaces. - There are examples of reducing monthly CO2 emissions by over 60%. *For more details, please refer to the materials. Free membership registrationPig cleaning of heat exchange pipes is a maintenance method for non-water-spraying snow melting systems. By passing a pig through the inside of the heat exchange pipe, scale that has adhered to the interior is expelled. Regular implementation prevents clogging of the piping. <Benefits> 1. The snow melting effect is restored! With pig cleaning, the snow melting effect from the initial installation continues. Furthermore, it extends the lifespan of aging existing pipes and improves durability. 2. Lifecycle costs are reduced! When pipes become clogged, it puts a load on the pump, shortening its lifespan. By rehabilitating the pipes, lifecycle cost reduction can be achieved. 3. No large-scale construction is necessary! There is no need for pavement removal or large-scale excavation work. JGD's pig cleaning allows for easy cleaning of the inside of the pipes. Additionally, the workspace required is compact. For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationThe groundwater reduction system is a system that uses the thermal energy of groundwater drawn from pumping wells to raise the surface temperature, facilitating snow melting and preventing freezing. Heat exchange pipes are embedded within the pavement, and groundwater is sent through these pipes to transfer thermal energy to the surface, enabling snow melting and preventing freezing. The groundwater after heat exchange is returned underground through injection wells, so issues such as groundwater depletion or abnormal drops in groundwater levels leading to ground subsidence do not occur. Since there is no spraying of water on the surface, travel and walking during snowfall are extremely comfortable. 【Environmental Aspect】 - It effectively utilizes groundwater heat, a renewable energy source, and since the groundwater after thermal use is returned underground through injection wells, issues such as groundwater depletion or abnormal drops in groundwater levels leading to ground subsidence do not occur. 【Space Saving】 - The only equipment installed above ground is the control panel and snow detection sensors, making it space-efficient. 【Low Operating Costs】 - The only requirement during operation is the power for the pump that draws groundwater, making it very economical.
