Thanks to the nanowires on the grid surface, blotting of the samples is unnecessary. ● High-speed sample processing without blotting Using hygroscopic grids treated with nanowires allows for rapid sample dispensing in the air. This reduces the effects of the gas-liquid interface and may address issues related to preferred orientation, aggregation, or denaturation. ● Automated grid processing A series of operations from sample application to freezing of the grid set in the grid holder is automated. In aerospace, automotive, and other fields, rapid advancements in material development and manufacturing technology are being made to achieve further weight reduction aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. This seminar will provide an easy-to-understand explanation for beginners about the development trends of new materials and various lightweight technologies, including additive manufacturing (AM) and manufacturing techniques, as well as product case studies from advanced companies energetically working towards ultra-lightweight solutions using lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, magnesium, and aluminum. We will discuss complex shapes and integrated structures that are impossible with conventional processing methods, as well as lattice/honeycomb structures, porous structures, and topology optimization through 3D printing, incorporating both success and failure stories. A recent topic of interest is magnesium alloys, which require caution for practical use due to their flammability. However, Tobata Seisakusho has newly developed a flame-retardant magnesium alloy and is currently working on layered manufacturing using metal 3D printers. We will introduce a case study of a prototype created with a lattice structure. Lightweighting of components, which is gaining attention as a next-generation candidate that can significantly differentiate itself from conventional and competitor parts, is an urgent and critical issue, with intense technological development competition occurring both domestically and internationally. Development along the lines of existing technologies is not expected. We encourage you to take on the challenge.
