[Key Lecture Content]
The EU AI Act, a comprehensive AI regulation that came into effect in August 2024, impacts a wide range of the value chain from AI development to provision and operation. In 2025, regulations concerning prohibited AI and general-purpose AI models began to be gradually implemented. The EU AI Act is expected to apply to companies outside the EU, and its impact is considered broad as it applies not only to providers and users of AI systems and models but also to importers, sellers, and manufacturers. Furthermore, the EU AI Act includes provisions for imposing hefty fines on violators. This seminar will explain the specific regulatory content of the EU AI Act, its implications, and practical responses for Japanese companies.
