[Seminar] Breaking Free from GPU Dependency and the Latest Trends in AI Semiconductors

[Speaker]
Mr. Takumi Aida, Analyst, Advanced Technology Lab, Japan Research Institute, Ltd.
[Key Lecture Content]
The role of information technology and data continues to expand year by year, necessitating the enhancement of the technological infrastructure that underpins all sectors of society and industry. In particular, the rapid proliferation of generative AI and machine learning in recent years has significantly increased the demand for AI computational processing. Consequently, securing vast computational resources has become a major challenge, with technical and economic bottlenecks such as increased power consumption and limits on processing speed becoming apparent.
In response to these challenges, the development of AI accelerators optimized for specific applications, as well as next-generation chips adopting new architectures, is becoming more active in addition to conventional general-purpose chips like GPUs. We are entering an era where the selection of hardware and design policies will influence the implementation efficiency and sustainability of AI technologies.
In this lecture, we will explain the latest research and development, market trends, and signs of technological breakthroughs related to AI semiconductors, while also exploring the ideal form of the computational infrastructure that will support future AI utilization from multiple perspectives.
