[Seminar] The Future of Finance - Are Stablecoins the Main Players?
[Speaker]
Yasushi Nakayama, Chief Researcher, SBI Financial Economic Research Institute Co., Ltd.
[Key Lecture Content]
The core of what Satoshi Nakamoto aimed to achieve with Bitcoin was to build a P2P electronic currency system that allows for direct and secure monetary transactions between two parties without relying on a trusted centralized third party (such as banks).
However, cryptocurrencies (crypto assets) have a significant volatility and are often associated with a speculative image, leaving challenges for their anticipated adoption as everyday payment methods and for broader financial efficiency. To address the issue of price volatility, stablecoins were developed.
In this lecture, we will explain from the basics the decisive differences between Bitcoin and stablecoins, their mechanisms, the regulations they face, and the risks of a \$1 peg collapse. We will consider how stablecoins can change business and daily life from a practical perspective in the "future of finance."
