JR Kyushu adopts "SPACECOOL" as a measure against temperature rise in level crossing equipment boxes and equipment rooms - achieving stable operation even in the ash fall environment of Sakurajima, with zero failures detected since its introduction.
SPACECOOL Co., Ltd. announces that Kyushu Railway Company has introduced our research and development and sales product, the radiative cooling material "SPACECOOL," to suppress failures and degradation in the communication equipment box at "Senganen Station" on the Nippo Main Line and the signal communication equipment room at "Maenohama Station" on the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line. Since the introduction, there have been no occurrences of equipment failure, and stable operation has been maintained.
JR Kyushu has previously implemented SPACECOOL in railway-related equipment as a measure against heat issues caused by extreme heat. At Senganen Station and Maenohama Station, the temperature inside the communication equipment box and the equipment room rose due to solar heat, resulting in failures and degradation of the electronic devices installed inside.
To mitigate the temperature rise, the installation of ventilation devices (fans) within the equipment was considered; however, due to the difficulty of installation caused by the ash fall from Sakurajima, a unique characteristic of Kagoshima Prefecture, it was determined that "SPACECOOL," which can be directly applied to the roof and exterior walls, is an effective measure suitable for the regional characteristics of Kagoshima, leading to its introduction.
In the future, we will expand the application range in similar environments both domestically and internationally, particularly in areas susceptible to salt damage, and work towards the widespread adoption of this technology in infrastructure facilities.
