3D measurement of tire sidewall character recognition and tread depth | SRI7400R
SinceVision SinceVision
Tire inspection is challenging due to difficulty in focusing on curved surfaces and issues with low contrast of black rubber and shadows from deep grooves. We will introduce a case study of OCR for sidewall markings and measurement of tread groove depth and surface shape using the SinceVision SRI7400R.
By rotating the tire and performing 3D scanning, we obtain shape data for curved and uneven areas. A single lateral scan and rotation calibration function tailored to the tire diameter assist in image reconstruction and alignment. A 650nm red laser is used to capture the surface of black rubber, which is difficult to reflect light.
It supports a scanning range of up to 720mm. In the original case study, data acquisition for a 19-inch tire took about 0.48 seconds, with the entire inspection completed in under 2 seconds. The data acquisition time and the total inspection time are different metrics.
High-resolution 3D data is utilized for character recognition and depth evaluation, supporting product identification and traceability in manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. Please verify processing time and detection performance according to the target tire and equipment conditions.
