Non-contact thickness measurement of soft rubber with two machines up and down | SG5085 case study
SinceVision SinceVision
Measuring the thickness of rubber while avoiding deformation due to contact. We present a thickness measurement example using the SinceVision SG5085 laser displacement sensors arranged in opposing vertical positions.
The thickness of rubber is a management item related to quality and performance during use. For soft and easily deformable materials, contact measurement can affect the subject. In this example, the surface position is obtained using two sensors, and the thickness is determined non-contactly. Measurement parameters can be adjusted according to the target conditions, allowing for application to rubber products with different shapes and dimensions.
The measurement range of the published example is -19 to +16 mm, with a required accuracy of 0.01 mm. The SG5085 supports linearity of ±0.02% F.S., a maximum frequency of 590 kHz, and a spot size of 110×720 μm.
An expanded configuration allows for connecting four heads to a single controller, triggering via a differential encoder, and simultaneous output of eight measurement values, enabling integration with equipment through multiple communication methods. We support the configuration when incorporating thickness management into the manufacturing process. Please consult us regarding the material, thickness, and transport conditions of the target rubber.
