What is Shiretoko Rausu deep seawater? Deep seawater refers to seawater that flows in the deep sea at depths exceeding 200 meters. It is said that deep seawater, which flows slowly deep within the ocean on a global scale, has been circulating through ocean currents for as long as 2,000 years. This deep seawater rises in areas where it encounters the continental shelf, which accounts for only 0.1% of its region. Areas known as upwelling regions, such as off the coast of Shiretoko, are rare marine areas in the world where clean and nutrient-rich deep seawater can be harvested.
