The current weather gauge PWD22 detects precipitation using a capacitive rain sensor. Additionally, by combining forward scattering optical data with temperature measurements, it distinguishes whether the precipitation is rain, snow, or another type of precipitation phenomenon. This result is output as a weather type indicated by WMO code or NWS code.

◆Application to General Meteorology and Aviation Meteorology The aviation meteorology PWD22, in addition to its weather discrimination function, has a visibility measurement range from 10m to 20,000m. This visibility measurement range is suitable for general meteorological observations as well as aviation meteorological observations. Additionally, due to its very low power consumption, it is particularly recommended for low-power automatic weather stations. The PWD22 can classify and detect frozen precipitation such as snow and sleet, enabling rapid alert issuance during adverse weather conditions to ensure the safety of road traffic and aviation operations. The PWD22 is equipped with two Vaisala RAINCAP rain sensors, capable of detecting even light drizzle. Furthermore, it can report weather in the WMO METAR code format used in aviation meteorological systems, making it easy to integrate into systems. ◆Installation and Mounting The PWD20 has all sensors mounted on an arm approximately 70cm long. Each part is compactly designed, resulting in a very lightweight overall construction. The power and signal lines are equipped with connectors that allow for easy connection. It can be mounted in various ways on poles or masts of standard sizes.
