Since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, the need for restoration, disaster prevention, and seismic performance evaluation and reinforcement of traditional wooden buildings has been increasing in order to preserve them for future generations. However, the models of traditional wooden structures are complex. To verify the deformation characteristics and stress states of members during assumed earthquakes, analytical tools capable of handling complex modeling are required. The Architectural Research Association has introduced "SNAP" and is conducting seismic performance evaluations and reinforcement projects for many traditional wooden buildings.
