The SIS XP, developed by the German company Roland, is a dedicated device for detecting defects in tire steel wire cord materials. This device uses magnetic detection principles to continuously inspect the condition of abnormal areas and splice sections of the steel wire cord material during the tire manufacturing process, and outputs that information. It utilizes up to 16 sensors and can detect issues such as wire pull-out, overlapping, and irregularities with a maximum inspection effective width of 1120mm. Additionally, it determines normal and abnormal splice sections based on pre-input data and outputs the results externally.

At many tire manufacturers, including Michelin and Goodyear, the splicing process after cutting involves checking for normal and abnormal conditions at the splice section, detecting any abnormalities in the steel wire, and displaying this information on an attached PC screen as well as outputting it externally. Compared to X-ray inspection systems, this approach aims to reduce initial costs and enhance operational safety, contributing to a decrease in tire manufacturing costs.
