Quenching, in a broad sense, is performed on various types of steel, each with its own specific heat treatment cycle. However, when described as a general tempering heat treatment, it involves heating carbon steel and alloy steel for mechanical structures with a carbon content of 0.3% or more to around 850°C in the austenite phase region, followed by rapid cooling in water or oil to transform the structure into martensite. Tempering is a heat treatment conducted to impart toughness to steel hardened by quenching. It involves reheating the steel from the martensite structure to 550°C to 650°C, holding it for a certain period, and then cooling it down. This quenching and tempering heat treatment is performed to adjust the mechanical properties of the steel, and the series of processes is referred to as tempering heat treatment. ● For more details, please contact us.
