The ECOLUX-Valo blue security light, which is in the form of a fluorescent lamp, helps deter crime with its blue light. The blue security light was installed in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2000, resulting in an unexpected side effect where crime in the area with blue streetlights decreased by 10,000 incidents over the course of a year. In Japan, the first blue streetlight was introduced in 2005 in Akishinodai, Nara City. As a result, areas with blue security lights reportedly saw a 38% reduction in crime rates in the first year.
