This is a testing device for evaluating the flexibility of coatings. It checks the resistance to cracking and delamination from the metal substrate when the coating is bent by a mandrel. According to JIS standards, there are two types: Type 1 and Type 2, and this product corresponds to Type 2. It is considered a suitable testing device for test plates with a thickness of up to 1mm. It is also used for evaluating the flexibility of hard coatings on films. For the standard size of 7mm width (056-1), the 100mm width type (056-70) corresponds to the frequently used test piece size of 70x150mm.

The test specimen, measuring 50mm x 100mm, is fixed in place by clamping it with the main body of the testing device set with a mandrel. The roller is brought close to the test specimen, and the handle is turned 180° evenly and gradually over a period of 1 to 2 seconds, without sudden movements. After that, the cracking of the coating and the peeling of the coating from the substrate are examined. The mandrel is changed to a smaller size until cracking and peeling occur, and the diameter of the mandrel at which cracking and peeling first occurred is recorded.
