The high-performance Reflx can be assembled by adding a λ/4 (P-V) transmission wavefront accuracy and a tapered mechanical housing to the original design of the Reflx objective lens. The tapered mechanical design allows for illuminating the subject at a 45° angle of incidence relative to the lens's optical axis when using external lighting. In the case of Reflx, which transmits the image through two reflections, it is necessary to manufacture the optical surface of the mirror more accurately to achieve λ/4 (P-V) transmission wavefront accuracy through two reflections. The polishing and testing of this mirror are performed using the Q22-MRF processing machine and SSI sub-aperture stitching interferometer from QED (USA), a precision manufacturing facility owned by Edmund Optics, resulting in a substrate surface accuracy of λ/20 (P-V) or better.
