Evaluation of Morphological Stability Characteristics Formulation materials, particularly amorphous sugars, undergo morphological changes when exposed to variations in humidity. As humidity increases, adsorbed water plasticizes the material and lowers the glass transition temperature. When the glass transition temperature drops to the measurement temperature, crystallization generally occurs. This data illustrates the behavior of amorphous lactose when humidity is steadily increased at 25°C. The characteristics of the weight measurement signal indicate various morphological changes, including the glass transition and crystallization of the amorphous phase.
