I believe that cutting processes will not yield accurate dimensions and shapes for items made of soft materials like rubber that have somewhat complex shapes. We must create the molding die while harboring these concerns. The "vacuum casting method" involves creating a master model from hard materials that are easy to machine, such as those made with a 3D printer, then inverting it in silicone, pouring in urethane rubber, and forming it. This allows for the creation of complex master models without directly machining the rubber, so all that remains is to replicate it with a soft material.
