■Odor Control Case Study■Odor Control in the Painting Line of an Automobile Factory (Japan)
Odor control consultation
At Kalmor Co., Ltd., we recommend odor control consultation and deodorizing equipment using microgel deodorants for odor management in automobile factories.
The main source of odors in automobile factories is the fumes from the painting process. The key points for odor control in this case were as follows: ★ Key Points for Odor Control Case ★ 1. Quality of odor: Organic solvent smell (exhaust from the painting process) 2. Large exhaust air volume, resulting in high costs for the introduction of deodorization equipment 3. Complaints have arisen around the factory, and they must be resolved urgently 4. There are many exhaust outlets and odor leakage points, making it unclear where to start with odor control 5. The strength of the odor varies depending on the painting process (thinner smell during color changes) The exhaust from painting is particularly prone to complaints from automobile factories. However, it is generally the case that the air volume is large, which can make it difficult to select appropriate deodorization equipment. In this case, there were dozens of painting exhaust lines, so we prioritized the exhaust outlets that should be addressed through odor control consultation. Exhaust air volume: 1,000 m3/min × 17 lines ★ Flow of Odor Control Hearing → Odor Control Consultation → Determination of Priorities for Odor Control → Introduction Test of Deodorization Equipment (Deodorant Spray System) → Introduction of Deodorization Equipment (Deodorant Spray System) → Resolution of Complaints

basic information
●Step 1: Odor Control Consultation Due to the large number of exhaust outlets, we first conducted an odor control consultation. We ranked the odor levels of the exhaust outlets that needed countermeasures and investigated how much we could reduce the emitted odors to minimize the odor dispersion area around the factory. As a result, we proposed measures for the top ten lines that had a high impact on the surrounding area. ●Step 2: Introduction of Deodorizing Equipment Although we narrowed down the exhaust outlets to be addressed, we are still implementing measures for ten lines. To carry out the measures simultaneously, we proposed the deodorizing microgel spray system this time. This spray system can accommodate multiple target lines with a single unit, allowing us to keep initial costs lower than other deodorizing equipment. Additionally, since the odor is strongest when using thinner during color changes, we successfully controlled the number of nozzles spraying in three stages according to the situation: "during color change," "during normal painting," and "during downtime," thus reducing running costs. The high cost benefits and the proven deodorizing effectiveness of the microgel led to the decision to introduce the equipment.

Detailed information
-
Deodorant microgel spray tank This is a spray unit for spraying deodorant microgel. In the case of deodorants, one spray unit can cover multiple exhaust lines.
-
Comparison of Odor Concentration This is a comparison of odor concentration before and after the introduction of the deodorization system. It can be seen that an odor removal efficiency of around 80% has been achieved.
-
Image of Odor Dispersion Situation In odor control consultations, we use specialized software to simulate and illustrate how odors disperse. This allows us to implement measures only in areas where odor complaints are occurring.
