The preamplifier signal from the detector is input into the spectroscopy amplifier (linear amplifier), and the output signal, which has been amplified and shaped by the analog circuit, is input into this device. The amplitude of this signal (peak value) contains information about the energy of the radiation. The MCA is a pulse height analysis device that detects this signal, digitizes the maximum peak value, and generates a spectrum (histogram). In terms of measurement operations, there are typically two modes: histogram mode and list mode. In histogram mode, spectral data is generated with the horizontal axis representing energy peak values such as keV and the vertical axis representing counts. In list mode, when valid events (signals from the amplifier that exceed the threshold and have peak values between LLD and ULD) are detected, the elapsed time since the start of measurement, the peak value, and the channel number are transferred to the PC as 8-byte long list data and saved to a file.
