Case Study Introduction [Cell Culture Experiment on the International Space Station – Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)] Takasago Electric's portable medium exchange system goes to space! Supporting bio-experiments at the ISS "Kibo" Japanese Experiment Module! Our portable medium exchange system has been reconfigured for space use and will be utilized as part of experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) in the fiscal year 2021. Instead of large robotic equipment, we have developed an automatic solution exchange device type 1 (Auto-Ex1) for cell culture experiments used by JAXA, based on the concept of "small and simple automation of medium exchange" using a small pump. This device is planned to be used for exchanging solutions such as media and reagents in cell culture experiments conducted at the ISS "Kibo" Japanese Experiment Module. Update on August 17, 2021: The Auto-Ex1 was launched on August 10, 2021, aboard the Cygnus resupply spacecraft from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia, USA, and successfully arrived at the ISS on August 12. It contributes to experiments aimed at understanding how cells sense gravity.

Case Study Introduction **Contribution to Regenerative Medicine Experiments in Microgravity – Techshot Inc.** Techshot Inc. is a company that designs, develops, and sells unique experimental equipment for use in space. They have partnerships with NASA and several universities and research institutions. The RP-Q series of small pumps sold by Takasago Electric Industry has been adopted as one of the main components of the experimental module used in Techshot's Multi-use Variable-g Platform (MVP) payload, which is installed on the International Space Station (ISS). The experimental module incorporating the pump was first launched to the ISS during the SpaceX mission CRS-20 in early March 2020. The photo shows the research equipment from Techshot sent to the ISS for the MVP Cell-03 experiment, along with the small tube pump from Takasago Electric integrated into the device. Founded over 30 years ago, Techshot Inc. is one of the world's leading commercial space companies. We are pleased that Takasago Electric's small pumps can contribute to scientific advancement alongside Techshot Inc.
