"Welding fumes" have been found to pose a risk of health issues such as neurological disorders for workers, and as a result of amendments to the Labor Safety and Health Act Enforcement Order and the Specific Chemical Substance Hazard Prevention Regulations, they will be added as a specific chemical substance (Category 2 substance). (Promulgated and announced on April 22, 2020, and enforced on April 1, 2021) In conjunction with this, indoor workplaces where metal arc welding and similar operations are conducted will be required to implement ventilation through overall ventilation systems, push-pull ventilation systems, local exhaust systems, and other means.
