What is a pandemic?

Infectious diseases progress through stages before reaching a pandemic, with the first stage known as an "outbreak," which refers to a situation where the number of cases of an infectious disease increases in a specific area or group beyond what is normally expected. When the infectious disease expands to a wider area than the outbreak, it is referred to as an "epidemic," and the progression from epidemic leads to a pandemic. In other words, if an outbreak does not occur, a pandemic cannot happen. Outbreaks often occur indoors, similar to clusters. Therefore, to prevent outbreaks, indoor infection control measures become crucial.
