Debris and foreign objects can get between the gauge and the inspection parts, causing scratches on the gauge and workpiece, or disrupting the judgment of through-holes. In such cases, this can be resolved with a "chip-grooved screw gauge." By adding chip grooves that allow foreign objects to escape to conventional plug gauges and ring gauges, debris and foreign objects collect in the chip grooves.
