This term, which has recently been used in the security industry, is an acronym derived from the following initial letters: P: Sending a password-protected ZIP file via email P: Sending the password via email A: Encryption P: Protocol While it is a widely used method for preventing information leaks, many experts have pointed out that its effectiveness is questionable. Many antivirus software programs cannot scan the contents of password-protected ZIP files, posing a significant risk; however, the PPAP method is a security measure that is widely used (and in some companies, mandated). Given this background, the PPAP method has caught the attention of cyber attackers as a "convenient" means for distributing malware. Finding alternatives for file sharing is challenging, but even more difficult is handling files sent via PPAP. IT personnel may be troubled by the fact that they cannot impose their company's rules on business partners and can only provide vague warnings such as "Please verify that the sender is the correct business partner before opening the ZIP file."
