The "Smart Inventory System" is an automatic management system for raw materials newly developed by AGC. By attaching RFID tags linked to raw material data to all raw material containers and collecting tag information through sensors installed at building entrances and exits, it has become possible to grasp the storage and usage history of raw material data in real time. Additionally, for tanks that were previously managed visually, such as caustic soda, the remaining quantity has been digitized, and a dedicated measuring device has been installed to enable remote monitoring of tank inventory and the development of a system that can automatically place orders. The "Smart Inventory System" consists of two components: the raw material inventory management system and the tank inventory management system. For the tank inventory management system, a cloud-based inventory management system that realizes the digital transformation (DX) of procurement operations has been co-developed with our company. It allows for real-time display of remaining quantities on a dashboard, automatic updates of inventory management tables, and automatic ordering to suppliers. An IoT framework has been established to monitor tank remaining quantities in real time from remote locations via mobile lines, utilizing sensors and gateway devices attached to the tanks. The gateway devices employ our CONPROSYS(R) TM series.

【Key Points of Introduction】 Challenges In the glass factory, raw materials necessary for glass production, such as silica sand, as well as caustic soda and hydrochloric acid used in wastewater treatment, are procured daily. To accommodate a complex production schedule, the responsible personnel spend a significant amount of time each day checking inventory levels, revising procurement plans, and adjusting storage and usage plans. Results By introducing digital transformation (DX) into procurement operations such as inventory checks, procurement planning, and ordering, which were previously done manually, we aim to facilitate the transfer of skills among workers and anticipate a reduction of 1,000 hours of work time annually. In the future, we are also considering expanding this initiative to other factories, focusing primarily on domestic glass factories.
