When it comes to Charles and Ray Eames, the Shell Chair series represents mid-century design. The Shell Chair was one of the works submitted to the "Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition," co-hosted by a non-profit furniture organization as part of MoMA's (Museum of Modern Art) efforts to differentiate itself by collecting modern design products in 1948. It impressively secured second place in the competition. The Shell Chair, produced by layering and adhering fiberglass wool using a mold and then shaping the final outline, was introduced to the world as an innovative mass-produced item. With a variety of leg designs such as wood legs, Eiffel base, rod base, stacking base, rocker base, H base, and cat's cradle, along with two types of seat shells—side shell and arm shell—it created a Shell Chair that fits various scenes.
