These fins are made by bending thin sheet metal and have slits periodically placed in them, which could potentially improve performance while maintaining the benefits of being lightweight and flexible. In forced air cooling environments, the slits can affect the flow of fluid, making it easier for heat to transfer from the fins to the air. Depending on the cooling and surrounding structures, this could improve heat dissipation performance by about 10%. In natural air cooling environments, performance improvements can also be expected depending on the shape and installation direction.
