The main advantage of ECS is its high-speed external serial interface. While the compass is installed, a serial cable or a usable USB cable can be temporarily connected through an RJ12-style modular receptacle without removing the system wiring. This allows for easy access during installation for calibration and tuning. It also provides a valuable diagnostic port that can be used for auxiliary readings as needed. The RJ12 connection is primarily used when it is undesirable to secure and implement the sensor.
