We would like to introduce our fully self-cleaning twin-screw extruder element, the "SMAP Screw." "SMAP Screw" stands for "Screw for Most Advanced Process." The key feature of the SMAP screw is that it increases the clearance of a single flight tip while maintaining self-cleaning characteristics. This configuration imparts (1) flow-splitting and merging functions and (2) a high-shear effect resulting from the use of shallower grooves (half the depth of conventional designs). Furthermore, since the amount of heat generated by shear is inversely proportional to the square of the screw channel depth, and the SMAP screw has half the depth of a standard screw, the specific energy becomes four times greater, allowing for a significant amount of shear-generated heat. These twin-screw extruder elements are suitable for compounding CNTs and CNFs, as they prevent abnormal material stagnation and ensure a favorable residence time distribution.
